Avalon Action Alliance brought together Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent and practicing neurosurgeon, and Dr. Michael McCrea of the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Principal Investigator of the VICTORY-RCT and one of the nation’s leading traumatic brain injury researchers, for an in-depth conversation about the evolving science of TBI, gaps in care, interdisciplinary rehabilitation and the research underway to help shape the future of treatment.

From concussion and whole-person recovery to emerging approaches to treatment, coordinated care and the VICTORY-RCT, their conversation explores both how far the field has come, and what still needs to change.

Their loss is carried every day. We remember their loved ones’ service, and we stand with the families who carry their legacies forward.

Coming Monday: A Conversation About the Future of TBI Care

What do we know about traumatic brain injury today that we didn't know 20 years ago? Why do some people recover while others continue to experience symptoms? And what will it take to improve the way persistent TBI is treated?

Avalon Action Alliance recently brought together Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent and practicing neurosurgeon, and Dr. Michael McCrea, one of the nation's leading TBI researchers and Principal Investigator of the VICTORY-RCT, for a conversation about those questions, and where the science is headed next.

Beginning next week, we'll share their conversation exploring traumatic brain injury, persistent symptoms, coordinated care and the research underway through the VICTORY-RCT.

What an incredible night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2nd Annual Avalon Action Alliance Gala and helped us Carry the Legacy Forward.

With Dr. Sanjay Gupta as our emcee, Arthur M. Blank presenting Alana Shepherd with the Legacy of Service Award, a moving performance by SongwritingWith: Soldiers, and so many of our Alliance partners, supporters and friends in the room, the evening was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together.

Most importantly, your generosity fuels the work. It helps Avalon remove barriers and connect veterans and first responders to life-changing care and gives them the opportunity to build stronger lives for themselves and their families.

Trauma lingers.
And every person carries and processes it differently.

In the aftermath of September 11, we witnessed extraordinary courage, service and resilience, qualities that continue to define the American spirit.

But resilience does not mean carrying everything alone. Even the strongest among us need to know it’s OK to ask for help.

We remember those we lost.
We honor those who answered the call.
And we stand with those who still carry the invisible wounds of that day.
