💜 What does it truly mean to put the person at the center of dementia care?

The Southern Gerontological Society is excited to share a newly published supplemental issue of the Journal of Applied Gerontology: “Reconstructing Person-Centeredness,” funded by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The issue explores how person-centered dementia care can be better defined, measured, and integrated across healthcare, long-term care, research, and technology.

Person-centered care is more than a concept. It means seeing the person beyond their diagnosis, honoring their preferences, recognizing their life story, and supporting dignity, connection, and quality of life.

This work is an important reminder that dementia care should always begin with the PERSON. 💜

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Susan Wehry and Jessica Luh Kim moderating panel conversations at our upcoming "Virtual Dementia Symposium: Rethink the Tragedy Narrative" — helping us go beyond the expected questions and dig into the conversations that can truly shift how we think about dementia.

The most fun dementia caregiver training is registering new participants!! Colleagues at the Gerontology Institute at Georgia State University are offering the 4-week training, Improving Care Through Improv, at Respite Care Atlanta. The sessions start September 24.
