Arlington Montessori Action Committee - AMAC AMAC is an organization of Montessori parents and educators whose primary goal is to promote and expand Montessori education. Join our listserv!

ublic Schools. APS’s Montessori program promotes self-directed learning, healthy self-discipline, and good citizenship. Montessori children learn in an environment that is community-centered, where they have strong ties to adults at school, and receive differentiated instruction from a variety of resources both inside and outside the classroom, including other children. Montessori works for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities, and APS’s Montessori classrooms exhibit this diversity. In short, the Montessori program meets several of the goals in APS’s Strategic Plan, including narrowing the achievement gap, rising achievement for all students, and responsive education.

AMAC advocates for quality Montessori, in both the public and private sector, in Arlington County. We are made up of a group of unpaid volunteers who do this work because we value the Montessori pedagogy and want to see it applied appropriately for the benefit of the children who attend these programs. We partner with other Montessori programs to present parent education opportunities, and we host community events and activities (such as our popular annual camping trip) for Montessori families. Your membership dues will help to fund all these efforts and allow us to keep our programs at cost or free without having to do the extensive fundraising that most nonprofits have to do. Your membership also allows you the opportunity to vote in the elections for the 2026 Executive Committee.

The Arlington Public Schools option school lottery is being drawn today, February 7th. Families who are awarded a spot will be notified via the phone/e-mail they provided when they applied. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL - they do not have any information about the lottery to share with you as that is being drawn at Syphax (Central Office).

Here are the timelines for when families will be NOTIFIED. Below in the comments are the links (and times) to watch the drawings live.

*Early Childhood PreK Lottery (CPP, VPI, Montessori PreK & K) between 10:30 a.m.- 12 p.m..

*Elementary Option Schools, Programs and Transfers between 2:30- 4 p.m.

*Middle & High School Option Schools, Programs and Transfers between 6 – 8 p.m.
