Sea Services Leadership Association - SSLA

Sea Services Leadership Association - SSLA Mentor, Inspire, Lead! The DoD does not endorse this organization, its products or services. SSLA was established in 1978.

It is currently the only non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to providing professional development through networking, education, and mentorship of women from all three maritime armed forces – the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. SSLA is a national non-profit and non-political organization. SSLA is an officially recognized affinity group for the sea services, a

nd continually advises the services about issues affecting Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel and their families. So by joining SSLA your voice can make a difference! We continue to value our partnerships with the Coast Guard’s Gender Policy Advisors and the Navy’s Women’s Policy Office to bring you the most up to date news, information, and networking opportunities throughout the two Services. We are also partnered with the United States Marine Corps’ Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity Management Branch and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Women’s Association (NOAAWA) to ensure we are truly reaching out to our entire sister sea services. SSLA holds a Women’s Leadership Symposium each year, which will give you an opportunity to meet with hundreds of fellow service women – as this is the largest gathering of women in uniform nationwide! The symposium provides you an opportunity to focus in on your leadership development, while also highlighting the achievements of women leaders who are in our front lines across the globe. We encourage you to use this time to network with leaders and peers and to take the knowledge you gain at this forum back to your commands to share with your colleagues and friends.

Sara Faulkner became the first woman to graduate from the U.S. Coast Guard's own Helicopter Rescue Swimmer School (AST "A" School).

A champion swimmer, she was part of the aircrew that rescued 48 people in one night during Hurricane Katrina. The training and demands of the duty were legendary, with films often spotlighting the grueling work of rescue swimmers.

A command master chief stressed how vital she was and called her a role model for women. She chose to remain in the Coast Guard. She eventually retired after establishing herself as one of the most respected Coasties in history.

New meaning to the term "warrior princess."

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden donned her fatigues once more to take part in a day of border exercises alongside soldiers from the Swedish National Guard (Hemvärnet) and the neighboring Norwegian National Guard (Heimevernet).

The joint exercise highlighted close Swedish–Norwegian defense cooperation, interoperability, and shared responsibility for security in the Nordic region. For the Crown Princess—who has longstanding military training and a strong interest in defense matters—the day was both symbolic and practical.

A clear reminder that Nordic security is built on cooperation, preparedness, and trust across borders. 🎖️(2021) 🇸🇪🇳🇴
