The teen takeovers, the violence, the challenges facing young people across our city. It’s heartbreaking, and we’re not going to pretend it isn’t happening.

But here’s something we wish made the headlines just as often.

Every single day, there are young people across DC showing up, putting in the work, and fighting for a future they’re proud of.

And the truth is, both groups of young people deserve our attention, our investment, and access to opportunities that can change the trajectory of their lives.

That’s why Hearts of Empowerment exists.

Not to ignore the challenges facing our city, but to be part of the solution. ♥️

Our young people need more than criticism. They need opportunity, guidance, and people willing to show up for them!

🎒 80+ BACKPACKS

Because of your support, we were able to provide more than 80 backpacks to our students and partner organizations as we kicked off the school year.

But these backpacks represent so much more than school supplies. Each one represents an opportunity for a young person to walk into school prepared, continue their education, and take another step toward building a better future for themselves.

To everyone who donated, shared, and supported this campaign, thank you. None of this happens without you.

We’re officially back in action and looking forward to another incredible year of programming, growth, and impact with our students ♥️

The numbers are in, and we couldn’t be prouder of what our students accomplished this year.

Olivia may not have spoken a single word, but she filled our lives with more love, joy, and meaning than words could ever express. ❤️ Her life was a beautiful reminder that every person matters, every moment is precious, and her name, her legacy, and the love she gave will never be forgotten. 🦋

This summer, D.C. saw what can happen when young people don’t have enough safe places to go, people to turn to, or opportunities to keep them engaged.

Research shows the right youth program can reduce violent-crime arrests by 43%.

We’re building that kind of program for D.C. students.

Our students are showing up. They’re preparing for college, building businesses, working with mentors, and staying out of the situations making headlines across our city.

Now we need your help reaching more of them.

$45 puts a backpack and school supplies in the hands of one student. A larger gift helps us open our doors to more young people and provide the mentorship, academic support, and opportunities they need all year long.
