Join us this Saturday for an unforgettable evening as the National Chamber Ensemble brings its 2025–2026 season to a joyful and inspiring close with Mozart and Bruch: The Great Concertos.

This special finale blends the power of great masterpieces with the warmth and intimacy of chamber music, offering a fresh and deeply moving way to experience some of the most beloved works ever written.

Internationally acclaimed pianist Carlos César Rodríguez joins NCE for Mozart’s radiant Piano Concerto No. 21 “Elvira Madigan,” overflowing with elegance, lyricism, and pure musical joy. Artistic Director and violinist Leo Sushansky takes center stage in Bruch’s passionate Violin Concerto No. 1, bringing heartfelt intensity and sweeping romance to one of the violin world’s greatest treasures.

This season finale celebrates the enduring brilliance of classical music’s great composers while showcasing the artistry of NCE’s distinguished musicians: Najin Kim (violin), Kelly Cho (violin), Uri Wassertzug(viola), Vasily Popov (cello), alongside Rodríguez and Sushansky.

Meet soloist Carlos César Rodríguez, a passionist pianist who gained recognition as a virtuoso. Carlos not only generates excitement in the Hispanic and Spanish repertoire but also displays an extraordinary flair for Mozart, the romantics and the avant-garde scores. He has recorded for Omicron and Brioso labels and has won the highest critical acclaims for his CD of Spanish music, España en el corazón, distributed by Brioso Recordings. An expert on early instruments as well, enjoying entree to the Smithsonian Institution’s rare collection, Mr. Rodríguez was chosen by the Smithsonian to perform during the 300th year celebration of the Piano by the museum. He was also invited to participate in the 150th anniversary celebration of the Smithsonian Institution. Mr. Rodríguez has won acclaim moreover as music director of Mozart operas and Zarzuelas (Spanish operas), and as a composer, arranger, and improviser of ballets, Spanish dance scores, and Latin-Jazz/Pop compositions.

Concert-pianist Carlos Cesar Rodríguez made his recital debut in his native Venezuela at age 5 and made his orchestral debut as soloist at age 11. Soon after he arrived in the United States to continue his music studies, Mr. Rodríguez was a finalist in the New York Philharmonic Young People’s Competition. At age 21 he made his Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall debut. As concert-artist he has toured Europe and performed concerti and solo recitals throughout the Americas. Venues in which Mr. Rodríguez has performed include the John F. Kennedy Center; the White House; and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC; Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Americas Society in New York; the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

As achamber music artist Mr. Rodríguez has become a regular guest artist with the Garth Newell Chamber Music Festival. As collaborative artist he has worked with Jessye Norman, Denyce Graves and Plácido Domingo.

Meet our soloist and Artistic Director, Leo Sushansky, acclaimed for his “gorgeous tone, compelling musical personality, [and] passionate intensity” by The Washington Post and hailed as “astonishing” by The New York Times. A violinist of remarkable virtuosity and expressive depth, Sushansky made his recital debut at Carnegie Hall in 2005 with pianist Edward Newman and has since appeared internationally as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in many of the world’s leading concert halls.

His distinguished career has included performances with numerous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin Chamber Orchestra, Romanian State Philharmonic, Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra, Aspen Chamber Orchestra, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, among many others. He has also been featured on numerous radio and television broadcasts, earning recognition for performances marked by technical brilliance, emotional power, and refined artistry.

Thanks to our wonderful audience, we had a great night Saturday! Thanks to the amazing NCE artists, our charming Ecuadorian guest violinist Jorge Saade, board members, volunteers and Marymount University staff who helped make the event so special. The National Chamber Ensemble presented “Musical Gems of Ecuador, a Violinists Journey” Saturday at Marymount University, Ballston Center, Jorge Saade, violin, Leonid Sushanaky, violin, artistic director, Vasily Popov, cello. and Carlos César Rodriguez, piano. Works by Mozart, Guevara, Lopez-Gavilán, Rachmaninov, Salgado, Yépez, Aizage, Carrion, Ortiz, Kreisler and Shostakovich were performed. Board Member David Wunderlich introduced the group.
