Did you know that spending even 10 to 20 minutes outside can boost your mood, sharpen your focus, and lower stress? Research from Cornell University confirms what many of us have felt after spending time outside.

May is Mental Health Month, and we want to know how you’re recharging. Whether you love walking the dog, gardening, sitting by the water, or catching a sunset, we want to hear what your favorite way is to connect with nature. Or better yet, share a photo in the comments of your go-to spot for a mental reset.

Bonus points if it's a park or other public lands where our SCA crews have been working!

Incredible things happen when we work together! We had a fantastic day of service recently at Marquette Park in Gary, Indiana, planting 10 Jack pine trees to support local wildlife, beautify the local green space and give back to the community.

Huge thank you to our partners at the City of Gary, the Arbor Day Foundation and United States Steel for making this possible. The SCA's Northwest Indiana Urban Green crew is proud to be on the ground doing the work to restore native ecosystems and grow our urban forests.

In Atlanta's Sweet Auburn neighborhood, our historic preservation crew is restoring the iconic structures of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life, from his birth home to the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

In honor of National Preservation Month, we want to recognize the small and mighty SCA team working alongside National Park rangers to keep Dr. King's dream alive while protecting this legacy for future generations.

Forest bathing – the practice of slowing down and immersing your senses in the forest – isn’t just poetic. It’s backed by science. Studies show it can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and boost mood.

But these benefits depend on healthy, accessible forests.

That’s why SCA crews work nationwide to restore trails, plant trees and care for the public lands that care for us.

Young people in Houston are helping their communities breathe easier — and SCA supporters are making it possible. 🌳

Through the Houston Urban Green program, teens are distributing native plants, restoring habitat and learning the skills that will shape tomorrow’s conservation workforce. Their work is improving air quality, expanding tree canopy and strengthening neighborhoods from the ground up.

More than 100,000 young leaders and counting!

Since 1957, we've been helping teens and young adults turn their love for the outdoors into a lifetime of service.

🥳Happy 93rd Birthday to our beloved founder, Liz Putnam! 🥳

What started with her college thesis turned into a national movement. Since 1957, the SCA has provided more than 100,000 young people with opportunities to restore and protect our public lands and nurture our urban green spaces.

Liz continues to champion the SCA and is a source of inspiration to all who carry the work forward.

Join us in saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to this conservation icon! 🎉

The Student Conservation Association is grateful for our partnership with Comic Relief! Together, we have provided thousands of children with essential environmental education to empower them and their families and built resiliency against the future threat of wildfires. Isis, a 2025 high school program participant, reflected on the importance of our work, noting "we need food but we also need a planet to grow the food on." Thank you for your support!
