🌿 Family Culture Nights | 2026–2027 🌿

Come together for evenings of culture, connection, learning, and community. Family Culture Nights will feature hands-on crafts, storytelling, interactive workshops, and informational sessions designed to strengthen community awareness, safety, and access to resources.

Join us on September 24 from 12-6 PM at the ASD Education Center for an Orange Shirt Day screen-printing event!

Bring your own orange shirt and create a design to wear in recognition of Orange Shirt Day. We’ll provide the screen-printing designs, ink, and expertise-you bring the shirt!

*YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN ORANGE SHIRT!*

We're currently accepting entries for the 2026-27 Federal Subsistence Program Fisheries Student Art Contest! The contest is open to all Alaska students, grades K-12.

Download the art contest poster, official rules and guidelines, and entry form at https://edit.doi.gov/subsistence/art-contest

This year’s entries should be related to subsistence fish or shellfish species or fishing activities. Participants are encouraged to draw from their experiences with subsistence activities regarding any of the federally managed fish and shellfish in Alaska. The winning art will be featured on the cover of the next federal fishing regulations book.

All entries must be postmarked by November 12, 2026.

Orange Shirt Day is September 30. It is a day to honor Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the ongoing importance of truth, learning, healing, and reconciliation.

ASD staff and families are encouraged to learn, listen, wear orange, and create space for meaningful conversations about residential schools and their impact on Indigenous peoples and communities.

Reminder: Join us for our Orange Shirt Day Makerspace on September 24, 12–6 PM at the ASD Education Center. Bring your own orange shirt for screen printing; designs, ink, and support will be provided.
