🇺🇸 🇺🇦 New Chance had an incredible weekend with the opportunity to advocate for Ukrainians in Alaska and across the United States.

Big thank you to Senator Dan Sullivan’s team in Alaska and DC for their unwavering support in the case work and beyond grateful to them for hosting a meeting for us today with DHS general counsel. We are also grateful for the opportunity to meet U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson thanks to our Congressman Nick Begich. Ukrainian voices were heard in these conversations, their successes, their challenges, and the realities they face.

We are so thankful for everyone who continues to stand with Ukrainian families!

We are grateful that children can enjoy a safe, fun, and adventurous summer, make new friends, and learn more about Alaska.

We are honored and grateful to United Way of Mat Su for awarding New Chance Ukraine Relief Program a 2026 Community Grant. 🎉

Over the past four years, United Way of Mat-Su has been a valued partner in supporting refugee families as they rebuild their lives in Alaska. 🇺🇸 🇺🇦

Together, we have welcomed newly arriving families at the airport with donated stuffed animals for the children, coordinated with local businesses to provide traditional Ukrainian welcome bread and salt, helped children prepare for their first day of school in the United States with backpacks and school supplies, and connected families with resources that helped them successfully settle into their new communities.

With this grant, we look forward to helping even more families in need and continuing to build a stronger, more welcoming Mat-Su community.

Four years ago today, we welcomed our first group of arrivals, 12 people. Their lives, and ours, were forever changed, though we didn’t yet know just how much.

After that first flight, we were at the airport for every direct flight from Frankfurt to Anchorage, welcoming more Ukrainians to their new home - Alaska. Before the summer even ended, we had welcomed over 600 people. Such a sweet memory… and there are still so, so many stories to tell.
