Thank you Senator Bill Wielechowski and Representative Donna C Mears for your continued support of the Ukrainian community in Alaska!

Several thousand Ukrainian Americans call Alaska home and until now, those needing to obtain passport services have typically had to travel to the Ukrainian Consulate in San Francisco or Washington, D.C.

Last week Rep. Donna Mears, Rep. Ted Eischeid and I had the opportunity to meet with Nazar Mankovskyi, Consul, from the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco who - in a historic visit- came to Alaska to assist Ukrainians needing passport services. Bringing these services to Anchorage removes a significant financial and logistical burden for families across our state.

We also had the opportunity to meet with constituent Zori Opanasevych, Executive Director of New Chance Ukraine Relief Program.

Yesterday, New Chance hosted the final evening of our Alaska fishing program! 🎣

Over several classes in Anchorage and Wasilla, our clients learned about Alaska fishing regulations, different fish species, and practical skills such as filleting, cutting, and smoking fish.

These classes also created a wonderful opportunity for our clients to connect, support one another, and build community — and we were excited to congratulate our Wasilla client, Larisa, who won a charter fishing trip! 🎉 🚤

We are grateful to our partners for their continued support and look forward to creating more educational and meaningful experiences for our clients across Alaska.

Thank you, Alaska, for standing with our Ukrainian community! 💙💛

🇺🇸 🇺🇦 New Chance had an incredible weekend with the opportunity to advocate for Ukrainians in Alaska and across the United States.

Big thank you to Senator Dan Sullivan’s team in Alaska and DC for their unwavering support in the case work and beyond grateful to them for hosting a meeting for us today with DHS general counsel. We are also grateful for the opportunity to meet U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson thanks to our Congressman Nick Begich. Ukrainian voices were heard in these conversations, their successes, their challenges, and the realities they face.

We are so thankful for everyone who continues to stand with Ukrainian families!
