At Anchorage Senior Activity Center (ASAC) our mission is to enhance the quality of life of Alaskans by promoting fitness, health and wellness and social interaction. With the space and services offered, Anchorage area seniors have a place to exercise, socialize and be a productive part of the community. Volunteers and members share that after retirement, they desired a place to be involved. Weekl

y Social Hour sees between 30 and 60 participants and many express their thanks for a place to get together. Lydia shares, “We come to dance and chat. We look forward to seeing each other all week and I can’t imagine what I would be doing if I wasn’t here. It would sure be a lonely time.”

On average, 200 seniors and community members daily are engaged in the thousands of activities each month that include a wide variety of programs. The following are some of the programs that ASAC offers:

• Fitness Center with Personal Training and Massage
• 42 Aerobic and Anaerobic Classes a week
• Medicare Information Office
• Diabetic Empowerment and Education Program (DEEP)
• Blood Pressure and Glucose Testing
• Cultural Events
• Library
• Computer Lab
• Dances
• Weekly Social Hour with Music and Refreshments
• Art Classes
• Craft and Quilting Room
• Philosophical Discussion Group

ASAC also collaborates with the Food Bank of Alaska to distribute 35-pound non-perishable food boxes monthly to seniors who meet the federal poverty guidelines. Our efforts to support, educate and connect seniors are growing. Alaska is the state with the fastest growing senior population in the nation for the past five years, and people age 60 and over are the fastest growing demographic in the State.

If you open a letter with a plastic Medicare card in it, don't "activate it." This is a scam. Medicare is not sending plastic Medicare cards. Report this to the SMP.

Remote patient monitoring (RPM) lets health care providers track a person’s health from home by collecting data like heart rate or blood sugar. This can help manage treatment, reduce travel, and lower infection risk.

Beware of scams: not all offers are real. Some companies may try to sign up Medicare beneficiaries for unnecessary RPM services or products, often contacting you by phone, online, or TV ads.

Stop fraudsters in their tracks! Report any suspected RPM fraud or abuse to your local Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP).

Members of our customer service team recently volunteered at the Anchorage Senior Activity Center, offering personalized tech advice and hands on support to help seniors navigate everyday technology with confidence. We’re proud to give back to the communities we serve and share our expertise with our neighbors. It was a great reminder that small moments can make a big impact.

Thank you, Katelyn, Grace, Allaine, Danielle and Aimee for volunteering!
