Our shelter at the Tok School remains open and available to anyone in the area evacuating due to the Mukluk fire. More disaster responders and supplies are now heading to the interior to support this growing response.

A wildfire can spread very quickly, leaving you little time to get to safety. Be prepared to evacuate at a
moment’s notice. If you feel you are in danger, leave immediately. You might not get an official notice to evacuate. If you have a car, ensure the gas tank is full and park it facing the direction of your evacuation route. Keep your pets in one room so you can find them if you need to evacuate quickly. Monitor local weather and fires near you. Sign up for free emergency alerts from your local government.
Stay up to date on evacuation routes and road closures that could impact your plans.

DISASTER RESPONSE: A shelter is now open in Tok due to wildfire evacuations. PLEASE NOTE the shelter is now located at TOK School (Jon Summar Dr, Tok, AK 99780), not the Dog Mushers Association. This location change is pending any further evacuations. Please follow all local and government official notifications regarding evacuations.

If possible, we encourage people who plan to stay in a shelter to bring prescription medications, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, other comfort items, and important documents. We do everything we can to accommodate service animals and pets comfortably in our shelters. Sometimes, pets may need to be housed in a different location with support from local partners.

Today we'd like to give a huge shout-out to our community partners, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Westchester Ward, who graciously allowed us to host our annual staff planning conference at their facility. It's community partners like this that help us make our mission possible.

Their generous contribution allows our volunteers to provide vital services to our active duty military members, including mind and body workshops, emergency messaging, and visits from our animal visitation team members.
