Alaska Head Start parents and caregivers: your voice matters! 📢

More than 16,000 families have already signed NHSA's national letter supporting Head Start program standards.

The deadline to participate is October 2.

Add your name today: https://nhsa.org/nprm-resources/how-to-speak-up-for-head-start/

More than 16,000 Head Start parents and caregivers have added their name to NHSA’s national Parent Sign-On letter, sending a powerful message about what families want protected in the program standards.

We are extending the deadline to Friday, October 2, 2026, to give even more families the opportunity to make their voice heard.

Every additional signature strengthens the collective message about the value of the services, supports, and opportunities that make Head Start work.

Please share the letter with parents and caregivers in your program today and encourage them to add their names before the deadline: https://nhsa.org/nprm-resources/how-to-speak-up-for-head-start/

Today marks the first day of fall, a season that reminds us to slow down, reflect with gratitude, and prepare for the months ahead. As the days grow shorter, we're grateful for the partnerships, families, and communities that make our work possible.

Wear Orange on September 30 🧡to honor the children, survivors, families, and communities impacted by U.S. Indian Boarding Schools.

Together, we remember, honor, and support healing.

Join Southcentral Foundation in wearing orange on Sept. 30, to recognize the National Day of Remembrance for U.S. Indian Boarding Schools. This day recognizes, honors, and supports the lost children, survivors, and their families, as we walk toward healing.

Between 1819 to 1969, the federal government operated approximately 21 boarding schools in Alaska. Communities experienced the unbearable trauma of the mass removal of children. The loss of language, names, and ancestral ways of being, ruptured entire generations of Alaska’s Indigenous children and communities. Generations were forever changed.

This Labor Day we celebrate the establishment of the Seward Skills Center, now known as the Alaska Vocation Technical Center (AVTEC), which trains rural Alaskans in equipment operation and maintenance. Our agency played a role in securing the funding through the Alaska congressional delegation to bring this training center to our state in 1969.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, our Central Office is closed.

Construction season, like summer, is short but critical. As our crews wrap up their seasonal work, we encourage Alaskans to have their heaters inspected, change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and stock up on winter emergency supplies.
