Fairview Community Council

Fairview Community Council Welcome to the official page of the Fairview Community Council, a vibrant and evolving neighborhood nestled in the heart of Anchorage, AK!

Community councils are independent, nonprofit, voluntary, self-governing associations composed of residents, property owners, business owners, nonprofits, and other entities located within geographical areas (districts) designated by the Assembly. Community councils serve an advisory function to the Assembly, the Mayor and the Administration. The purpose of community councils is to provide a direc

t and continuing means of participating in the government process and local affairs. Community Councils are recognized in Anchorage’s Home Rule Charter, and the Assembly authorizes each council by ordinance. While community councils are not part of local government, they are an important part of the local government process.

Full house tonight at our monthly meeting, including Mayor LaFrance and her team to discuss the potential behavioral health treatment in Fairview.

We also were able to kick off the meeting with some celebrations! Senator Löki Gale Tobin led a citation to honor Maria and Chris Crawford for their contribution to Fairview’s youth and families, and for making our neighborhood sparkle!

The Federation of Community Councils, Inc. recognized Allen Kemplen for his exemplary leadership leading our council. We 💚 Fairview!

HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who spent a rainy day with us building the Perseverance Community Garden at 14th & Ingra! We had a crew of about 50 volunteers throughout the afternoon transforming this lot. Thank you to our many partners, especially Alaska Community Action on Toxics' Yarducopia program and Anchor Gardens for gathering materials, hosting the lasagna gardening workshop, and directing volunteers to make something big come together! We can't wait to start growing food and building community here.

Our roads in Anchorage--and Fairview--are dangerous by design, and that's why we're fighting to Reconnect Fairview with improvements along Gambell and Ingra and more throughout the neighborhood. From the aricle:

"In both 2024 and 2025, 15 pedestrians died from vehicle strikes, record-high levels described by safety advocates as a crisis. According to the Division of Public Health’s statistics, that makes Anchorage among the deadliest cities in America to be a pedestrian, with a per capita death rate last year of 5.18 per 100,000 people. That’s higher than Memphis, Tennessee, which had the highest average annual pedestrian fatality rate in recent years, at 5.14 deaths per 100,000, according to rankings compiled by Smart Growth America, a national nonprofit advocacy group."

Findings from the state of Alaska showed Anchorage is one of the deadliest cities to be a pedestrian.
