Book Buddies are back! This year, ATC's goal is to help 315 children learn to read by pairing them with dedicated, volunteer tutors. Training is already in full swing for our 300+ volunteers, and the first wave of Book Buddies has started tutoring. We are so excited to watch more students embark on their Book Buddies reading journeys over the coming weeks.

ATC is excited to announce the Readers of Tomorrow Fund, a new initiative encouraging supporters to include ATC in their planned giving!

Alexandria's City Council officially proclaimed September as Legacy Month in the City of Alexandria. Think Ahead Alexandria, a community-wide initiative led by ACT for Alexandria encouraging residents to think about the legacy they want to leave.

Entering her sixth year as an ATC tutor, Laura named ATC as a direct beneficiary of her IRA. As Laura explains, 
"I know the impact that learning to read has on a child. I see it every year when my student starts being able to read the posters and signs around the school as we go back and forth from the library. It makes my heart sing! One little girl would always read the daily message on the library’s chalkboard, and if a few letters were smudged, she would be crushed because she couldn’t decipher the entire message. Watching kids blossom as they start reading in real life is what motivates me. I hope my gift helps ATC serve all kids who need help in years to come."

Laura Noble has been tutoring for Alexandria Tutoring Consortium’s Book Buddies program for five years, helping K-2nd grade readers in Alexandria City Public Schools find their footing before third grade, the year reading shifts from a skill you're learning to a tool you rely on.

With no children of her own, Laura named Alexandria Tutoring Consortium as a direct beneficiary of her IRA. A legacy gift, rooted in five years of watching kids blossom.

Now's the time! Tutoring begins in October and we could use your help. We served a record 300 students last school year and we hope to keep a good thing going by helping even more students this year.
