Please join us in welcoming The Alexandria Tutoring Consortium (ATC) to The Chamber ALX! 🎉

The ATC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young students build strong reading skills by recruiting and training volunteers to tutor kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade students. In partnership with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) and the broader community, The ATC equips volunteers with comprehensive training and ongoing support in proven, effective tutoring methods to help students succeed.

We're proud to welcome an organization that is making a meaningful impact on the future of our community, one student at a time. We look forward to supporting ATC's mission and celebrating all they accomplish as a member of the Chamber.

Last school year, with the help of ATC's donors and tutors, our impact continued to grow. We served 300 students (up from 279) through the dedication of 347 tutors, who delivered 11,701 tutoring sessions throughout the year. Most importantly, 89% of students met or exceeded their year-end benchmark, reflecting the meaningful progress our Book Buddies achieved with consistent, one-on-one tutoring in direct support of classroom instruction. An enormous THANK YOU goes to everyone who made all this spectacular learning possible!

📚 Alexandria children’s book author starts Finch & Squirrel to mentor self-publishing writers

Alexandria resident and children’s book author Barbara Leary founded Finch & Squirrel to mentor writers through self-publishing, offering coaching, editing, illustrator guidance and publishing support. The studio recently helped three debut authors with local ties publish their first children’s books.

Congratulations to our friends at The Child & Family Network Centers (CFNC) and Together We Bake (TWB) for their selection as Spur Local critical nonprofits! 🎉

CFNC provides high-quality, accredited preschool education and family support services providing holistic, multilingual preschool for income-qualified families in the City of Alexandria.

In addition to delicious handmade cookies and granola, TWB supports women navigating barriers to employment by teaching empowerment and life-skills classes through a small baking business.
