The Akron Press Club is proud to host two special spring luncheon programs featuring the candidates for Ohio Auditor. Each candidate will share their vision for Ohio, discuss key priorities, and speak directly with attendees in a thoughtful, nonpartisan setting.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose will discuss his campaign for Ohio Auditor. An Akron-area native and U.S. Army Green Beret veteran, LaRose has served as Ohio Secretary of State since 2019 and previously represented Ohio’s 27th Senate District.

Such a great conversation at the Akron Press Club this week on “What Matters to Gen Z?” 👏

As Generation Z continues to enter the workforce and shape our communities, it was incredible to hear directly from young professionals and students about their experiences, perspectives, and the realities behind the stereotypes. From navigating a digital-first world to building careers during times of uncertainty, their insights were thoughtful, honest, and inspiring.

A big thank you to our panelists for sharing their voices, and to Akron Press Club for creating space for these important conversations. And shoutout to Ideastream Public Media reporter Anna Huntsman for moderating such a dynamic and engaging discussion.

We also loved the audience participation—there were some great questions.

🎓 Scholarship Deadline Approaching!

Are you a Northeast Ohio college student studying journalism, public relations, or communications? The Akron Press Club, in conjunction with the John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund, awards $5,000 scholarships each year to support the next generation of media and communications professionals.

⏰ Applications are due March 8, 2026.

To be eligible, applicants must:
• Be majoring in journalism, public relations, or communications
• Have a permanent address in or attend a school in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, or Wayne County
• Remain a full-time student through at least December of the award year

Scholarships are presented each spring at a special Akron Press Club luncheon.

These scholarships honor the legacy of Russ Pry, former Summit County Executive and longtime Press Club supporter. Additional scholarships are made possible through the generous support of Dr. Aileen Thong, Elizabeth Bartz, and the John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund.

A full room and an important conversation.

Thank you to the 400+ attendees who joined the Akron Press Club today for Superintendent Mary B. Outley’s first State of Akron Public Schools address.

Superintendent Outley discussed the opportunities and challenges facing the district’s 20,000 students, including a projected budget deficit, major building projects, and the evolving state and federal policy landscape. The program also featured insightful questions from the audience.
