These two Akron police officers have chosen to serve beyond the badge, investing in young people through mentoring programs that build relationships, create positive opportunities, and help prevent violence before it begins.

Their commitment is a powerful reminder that real change happens when we show up, build trust, and invest in the next generation.

We’re excited to announce our Allies Award recipients, Pastor Becky Evanoff and Pastor Jim Steingass!

Their partnership helped give rise to The Verge, bringing Methodist, Lutheran, and Nepali youth together across congregational and cultural lines to build relationships, deepen their faith, and discover what’s possible when we choose to belong to one another.

Through the partnership of Northampton United Methodist Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Becky and Jim are showing what it looks like to build bridges, create belonging, and live out love across our community.

What a great day of learning, connection, and collective action at the 2026 Youth Success Summit! 🙌

We were grateful to be part of today’s gathering at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, bringing together people and organizations committed to creating more opportunities and resources for young people across our community.

A special shoutout to Ethan and Kemp, who did an incredible job leading their sessions! 👏 It was also great connecting with friends and community partners like First Glance, Red Oak, Akron Sneaker Academy, and so many others doing meaningful work throughout Greater Akron.

Days like today remind us that none of us does this work alone. When we share resources, build relationships, and work together, our entire community gets stronger. ❤️

Today, we’re proud to recognize Travis W. Bornstein as a Change Maker Award recipient.

After experiencing unimaginable loss, Travis turned his pain into purpose, becoming a powerful advocate for recovery and building Tyler’s Redemption Place—creating a community where individuals and families can find connection, support, and hope throughout the long road of recovery.

🏆 CHANGE MAKER AWARD WINNER: KARLA McDAY!

We’re excited to celebrate Karla McDay, co-founder of Harmony House, Inc., as one of the recipients of this year’s Love Akron Change Maker Award! ❤️

Karla saw young adults experiencing homelessness falling through the gaps and chose to do something about it. Through Harmony House, she has helped create pathways to housing, stability, independence, and hope, reminding young people that their circumstances do not define their potential.

2026 Servant Leader Award Recipient: Kathleen Paydo

We are honored to announce Kathleen Paydo as this year’s Love Akron Servant Leader Award recipient!

For nearly four decades, Kathleen has embodied what it means to serve others. By opening her home to more than 200 foster children with her husband Ron, advocating for children, strengthening families, and inspiring others to answer the call to care, her life is a powerful example of love in action.
