This month, OneCity pastors gathered to hear from Summit County Children Services and Hope Bridge about tangible ways we can love the least of these in Akron.

At Love Akron, we believe that love begins with the who, not the what.

Before foster care is a system, it's a child.

Before family support is a program, it's a family.

Before a need is a statistic, it's a person.

If you're feeling a tap on your shoulder, move forward. Foster. Support a foster family. Show up for a child in need.

Last week, we wrapped up our final Locker Room Experience of the school year, and what a celebration it was! 🎉🏀

The room was filled with joy, laughter, encouragement, and pride as students celebrated all the hard work they’ve put in this year to help reduce absenteeism, prevent violence, and create stronger school communities.

This was bigger than just an event. It was a celebration of growth, leadership, accountability, and students choosing every day to show up for themselves and for each other. We are incredibly proud of every young person who committed to making a difference this year.

Shoutout to all our partners that make this progression possible - Akron Public Schools, GAR Foundation, Huntington National Bank, The University of Akron, and SeibertKeck Insurance Partners!

Yesterday morning’s Love Akron Connect was a powerful reminder that stories can inspire change. We’re grateful to Dominique Waters for sharing his testimony, vision, and journey of creating opportunities for young people through innovation, culture, and purpose. Your passion for helping the next generation see what’s possible was felt throughout the room.

Thank you as well to Ethan Humes for serving as moderator and helping guide such an impactful conversation.

Connect is all about bringing leaders, dreamers, and changemakers together to learn from one another and strengthen our community. Yesterday was another great example of what can happen when people come together with purpose.

After more than a decade of faithful commitment to Love Akron, Lori Porter is transitioning from her role as Progressions Coordinator into a contract-based role focused within the Grief Recovery Method.

For 10 years, Lori has shown up with consistency, care, and a deep investment in people across our community. So much of who we are today carries her fingerprints.

This isn’t goodbye, but a meaningful transition that reflects Lori’s continued care for people navigating grief and healing.

We love you, Lori, and we’re grateful this next chapter still keeps you connected to the work and people of Love Akron. Let’s show her some love in the comments.

Did you know? National Day of Prayer has been officially recognized in the United States since 1952, bringing communities together each year to pray for our nation, leaders, schools, and families.

Grateful for another powerful year of prayer and connection throughout Summit County. 🙏📸
