Race to Net Zero Philippines (RtNZ PH) joined the 26th ASEAN Energy Business Forum held on October 5-9, 2026, where discussions focused on energy security, investment, and the regionโ€™s clean energy ambitions.

For the Philippines, these issues shape how we move toward net zero. Making progress means understanding the opportunities ahead and the challenges people face in shifting to cleaner energy.

RtNZ PH was represented by (left to right) Mr. Eduardo Salvador, Development Communications Officer; Mr. Paulo Burro, Senior Strategy Consultant; and Ms. George Krizza Kiongson, Decarbonization Lead.

Iloilo Cityโ€™s commitment to the Race to Zero is an opportunity to translate climate ambition into measurable action at the local level.

Cities shape a significant share of emissions with decisions on transport, land use, buildings, energy, waste, and urban development. Reaching net zero will therefore require more than long-term targets. It calls for science-based pathways and sustained implementation.

With its existing work on sustainable mobility, green spaces, and waste reduction, Iloilo City has a strong foundation to build on.

The next challenge is turning that foundation into measurable emissions reductions and a pathway aligned with 2030 and 2050 climate goals.

On June 23, 2026, Race to Net Zero Philippines (RTNZ PH), together with Mr. Magnus Nielsen of Marine Conservation Philippines and Mr. Uynghiem Ngo, RTNZ Technology Partner, met with Mega Prime Foods, represented by Ms. Agatha Albano and Ms. Adelle Catalla, to discuss the direction of Mega's ocean cleanup initiative.

The conversation went beyond cleanup volume. It centered on a more fundamental question: what happens to waste after it's collected โ€” and how do we build systems that can prove it?

Key directions that emerged from the discussion include shifting from a collection-focused model toward a structured circular waste management framework, exploring Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to bring traceability to waste data, strengthening community and youth engagement by banking on case studies from Pro Ocean Philippines.

This collaboration reflects the growing importance of combining waste recovery efforts with strong data systems, community engagement, and commitment to support long-term, scalable impact.

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž: On June 15, 2026, Race to Net Zero Philippines is joined by the Pro Ocean Philippines, represented by Founder & CEO Mr. Bastian Gรผnther, Co-Founder Mr. Lukas Roth, and Business Development Manager Ms. Lea Rรถder to explore potential collaboration on ocean clean-up initiatives that can help address ocean and marine pollution in the Philippines.

The discussion focused on opportunities to strengthen coastal and ocean protection improved waste collection systems, data-driven monitoring, and innovative financing mechanisms. It also explored ways in engaging stakeholders in scaling practical solutions that prevent waste leakage into waterways and coastal ecosystems.

With an MRV platform being developed by Mr. Uynghiem Ngo, RTNZ Technology Partner, the discussion further explored how traceability and impact measurement could support environmental initiatives like waste reduction projects.

Representing RTNZ PH were Ms. Dawn Cabigon, Campaign Lead, and Mr. Jon Alea, Programs and Development Officer.

As RTNZ PH advances its mission to accelerate climate action, the organization continues to engage partners across sectors to develop scalable and impactful environmental solutions.
