On August 13, 2026, Race to Net Zero Philippines (RTNZ PH) held its office launch and intimate networking event, bringing together stakeholders and partners for an afternoon of reconnection and shared ambition to shift from commitments to action.

The networking session provided a space to bridge the strategic direction of RTNZ PH with the people and initiatives needed to bring climate action forward. Stakeholders also had the opportunity to preview the way forward for the global Race to Zero campaign, providing context for how the global campaign is evolving and how partners can contribute to the next phase of climate action.

The event marks a renewed invitation to collaborate, connect, and act.

As we move forward, RTNZ PH looks to strengthen dialogues and partnerships across sectors and translate shared commitments into concrete initiatives that contribute to a net-zero Philippines.

The Philippines has already started putting its climate commitments into action, with policies and programmes helping reduce emissions across different sectors.

But there's still a long way to go. Achieving the country's full climate target will require more support, investment, and action from businesses, governments, and other partners.

As the Philippines updates its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2026, everyone has a role to play in building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.

Swipe through to see where the Philippines stands today and why businesses are key to achieving our climate goals.

The international climate landscape is built on shared commitments, scientific evidence, and collective action. From the Paris Agreement and the annual Conference of the Parties (COP) to the work of the UNFCCC and the IPCC, these global mechanisms shape how countries, businesses, and communities respond to the climate crisis.

As the world prepares for COP31 in Antalya, Tรผrkiye, understanding these institutions helps us better appreciate how national commitments, such as the Philippines' Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), contribute to the global goal of limiting temperature rise and building a more resilient future.

The Philippines has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030 under its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)โ€”our country's climate commitment under the Paris Agreement.

But achieving this target requires more than policy. It calls for collaboration across government, businesses, financial institutions, and communities to accelerate climate action at scale.

Understanding the NDC is the first step towards identifying where organisations can contribute, invest, and create measurable impact.

Swipe through to learn what the Philippine NDC is, what sectors it covers, and why partnership and innovation are critical to accelerating the country's transition to a net-zero future.

On June 23, 2026, Race to Net Zero Philippines (RTNZ PH), together with Mr. Magnus Nielsen of Marine Conservation Philippines and Mr. Uynghiem Ngo, RTNZ Technology Partner, met with Mega Prime Foods, represented by Ms. Agatha Albano and Ms. Adelle Catalla, to discuss the direction of Mega's ocean cleanup initiative.

The conversation went beyond cleanup volume. It centered on a more fundamental question: what happens to waste after it's collected โ€” and how do we build systems that can prove it?

Key directions that emerged from the discussion include shifting from a collection-focused model toward a structured circular waste management framework, exploring Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems to bring traceability to waste data, strengthening community and youth engagement by banking on case studies from Pro Ocean Philippines.

This collaboration reflects the growing importance of combining waste recovery efforts with strong data systems, community engagement, and commitment to support long-term, scalable impact.

The discussion focused on opportunities to strengthen coastal and ocean protection improved waste collection systems, data-driven monitoring, and innovative financing mechanisms. It also explored ways in engaging stakeholders in scaling practical solutions that prevent waste leakage into waterways and coastal ecosystems.

With an MRV platform being developed by Mr. Uynghiem Ngo, RTNZ Technology Partner, the discussion further explored how traceability and impact measurement could support environmental initiatives like waste reduction projects.

Representing RTNZ PH were Ms. Dawn Cabigon, Campaign Lead, and Mr. Jon Alea, Programs and Development Officer.

As RTNZ PH advances its mission to accelerate climate action, the organization continues to engage partners across sectors to develop scalable and impactful environmental solutions.

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž: Race to Net Zero Philippines and Iloilo City Explore Pathways to Advance Cities Race to Zero

Race to Net Zero Philippines (RTNZ PH), together with the ECCP - European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, held a strategic meeting with the Iloilo City Government led by Hon. Raisa Treรฑas on June 8, 2026, to explore opportunities for Iloilo City to participate in the Cities Race to Zero initiative โ€” a global campaign that mobilizes cities to accelerate climate action, strengthen resilience, and advance the transition toward a net-zero future.

The discussion marks an important milestone in expanding local government participation in the Race to Zero movement in the Philippines. As the climate sustainability arm of ECCP and the official national accelerator of the UN-backed Race to Zero campaign, RTNZ PH continues to work with cities, institutions, and stakeholders to accelerate climate leadership and translate global climate ambitions into measurable local action.

From active mobility and renewable energy initiatives to river rehabilitation, mangrove restoration, waste reduction, and water security efforts, Iloilo City is well-positioned to demonstrate how climate action can be integrated into urban development, economic growth, and community well-being.

The strategic meeting demonstrated that achieving a net-zero future requires action not only from businesses and institutions, but also from cities that are at the forefront of delivering solutions that directly impact communities.

As an archipelagic nation, the Philippines depends on healthy oceans and marine ecosystems for food security, livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate resilience. Yet these vital ecosystems continue to face growing pressures from climate change.

This World Ocean Day, Race to Net Zero Philippines highlights the critical role of oceans in achieving a climate-resilient and net-zero future. Protecting our oceans is not only an environmental imperativeโ€”๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ ๐—ฐ๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ.

Because climate action extends beyond reducing emissionsโ€”it also means safeguarding the natural ecosystems that sustain life, protect communities, and strengthen resilience. This reflects the UNFCCC's call to steward forests, oceans, and biodiversity in pursuit of a climate-resilient and net-zero future

As climate risks continue to grow, the need for action that is practical, people-centred, and built to last has never been more urgentโ€”because the most effective climate solutions are those that ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜€, ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€, and ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜.

This World Environment Day, Race to Net Zero Philippines joins the call for climate action that delivers real outcomes for the communities. Achieving a net-zero future requires more than commitment, it requires measurable action and collaboration across sectors.

As the official Philippine platform of the UN-backed Race to Zero campaign, we continue to support and mobilize organizations and institutions to transform climate commitments into practical action.
