"At first the students are very shy when they come to Literacy Aotearoa. They don't know how to act. But by the time they have finished they are like friends." - Jake, Cluster Administrator, New Plymouth

Jake sees this transformation every single day. Students arrive uncertain, maybe nervous, not sure what to expect.

But by the time they complete their programme? They're friends. They're confident. They belong.

This is what happens when you create a truly supportive learning environment.

From student to staff member – Jake's inspiring journey 💙

Jake's connection with Literacy Aotearoa started when he joined a cooking class during his final year of high school. Today, he works as Cluster Administrator at our New Plymouth branch, supporting others on their learning journeys.

"At first the students are very shy when they come to Literacy Aotearoa. They don't know how to act. But by the time they have finished they are like friends."

Jake's workplace includes accommodations for his needs – ergonomic seating, adapted tools, and his service dog Max is welcomed by the entire team.

When we remove barriers and create inclusive environments, amazing things happen.

Be part of a local team of educators who are passionate in their understanding that increased literacy

The Kaiako/Tutor is responsible for delivering Literacy Aotearoa programmes to learners who seek to increase their literacy

with the right experience we can offer opportunities to earn while you train to achieve these qualifications.

 Have a commitment to the kaupapa to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
 Have experience in engaging with Māori, Pasifika and at-risk youth in education.
 Experience assessing and working with young people and adults who have not previously had education success.
Programmes are delivered in groups of learners, and face-to-face. Literacy Aotearoa is also able to deliver programmes
using multiple online platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
