Youth Lounge planning is officially underway!

As we move closer to completing our community hub, one of the exciting next steps is designing a dedicated youth lounge - a space for rangatahi to truly call their own. A place to connect, socialise, relax and feel a sense of belonging.

We recently brought together around 20 rangatahi from five schools across Invercargill to share their thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the space. From wall colours and creative storage ideas, to gaming zones and even a spa, no idea was off limits.

Brent and the team from McCulloch Architects were on hand to listen, take notes and help guide the discussion before heading back to the drawing board to begin bringing the ideas to life.

A youth lounge designed by youth - just how it should be.

Thank you Aurora College for hosting us! 🙏🏼

A huge thank you goes out to another couple of supporters helping bring the vision of the Grace Street Project to life.

We’re about to hit the pavements and start creating content that showcases the amazing people in our community - those who have already backed us, and those we hope to support once our doors officially open.

Of course, we can’t do that without the right tools and resources.

That’s why we’re incredibly grateful to Harvey Norman New Zealand and DJI, who kindly reached out and donated a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, valued at over $800! We cannot wait to start creating videos and sharing more stories from our community with it.

To top it off, Radio Southland generously jumped in and offered us a pair of microphones to perfectly complement the camera setup.

Every bit of support like this helps us tell stories, build connections, and bring the Grace Street Project to life in a meaningful way. Thank you for believing in what we’re building.

Nine clubs. One scooter challenge. $15,000 for the Grace Street Project.

For the first time ever, nine Southland Rotary clubs joined forces to fundraise for The Grace Street Project by supporting the famous PlaceMakers Southern Scooter Challenge.

On Friday we sat down with them to receive the $15,000 they'd raised for us, and to hear that they're also offering to bring their Youth Development programme here to Southland once our doors are open.

Behind that $15,000 sits a lot of work:

Raffle prizes gathered, raffle sales, auction prizes, Te Anau after party organisation and auction, en route marshalling, scooter rescue … A lot of hours, a lot of hands, a lot of jobs ticked off by people who simply got on with it.

To every member of all nine clubs, thank you. In no particular order:

Rotary Club of Fiordland, Rotary Invercargill South, Rotary Club of Invercargill, Rotary Club of Invercargill Sunrise, Gore Rotary Club, NZ, Winton Rotary, Invercargill North Rotary Club, Rotary EAST Invercargill and The Rotary Club of Aparima, all proudly part of Rotary District 9999

And to everyone who donated a prize or bought a ticket, you've put another block in place.

It takes a village. We've never felt that more than we do right now.

If you'd like to be part of the build, buying a plaque, running your own fundraiser, or making a donation, get in touch or visit our website:

Ngā mihi nui to One New Zealand and Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation, who have announced a $110,000 investment in the Grace Street Project. The investment provides the Foundation with naming rights to the youth-focused technology hub, a place where rangatahi can learn, get creative, and find their way into jobs, training, and further study.

For its first two years, the space will be known as the One New Zealand Technology Hub. It's part of Te Rourou's five-year Invercargill Initiative, working to reduce youth exclusion and disadvantage across Murihiku Southland.

Locals building it. Locals backing it. And now some serious backing from further afield, helping us get the job done.

Ka pai.

🥁 DRUM ROLL PLEASE! 🥁

The first Invercargill school to raise $1000 - securing their Southland 1000 plaque and becoming a founding member of the Grace Street Project is…

👏👏🎉 Aurora College 🎉👏👏

Through awesome in-school fundraisers like a dress-up day and a sports day drinks stall, they smashed their goal and secured their plaque. A true example of many hands making light work 💪

A huge thank you to the rangatahi and kaiako of Aurora College! We’re committed to doing you proud by creating a space South Invercargill can truly call its own.

And they’re not done yet… another fundraiser is already in the works! 🥰

So, who’s next?
Could your school, workplace, or group rally together, raise $1000, and become a founding member too?
