This ***dePreventionDay we’re sharing a reminder to check in and support our takatāpui, MVPFAFF+, trans and rainbow whānau 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Su***de prevention can look like the small things - checking in with a friend, listening without judgement, helping connect them to community. The little reminders that there are people who care make a difference. Who can you check in with today? 📞🫂💻

Su***de can affect every one of us. By raising awareness, reducing the stigma and encouraging action we can help to reduce the instances of su***de around the world 🌎

If you’re currently struggling with thoughts about su***de please reach out to a loved one, mental health or rainbow community organisations and support helplines - you are not alone 🧡

Yesterday Nige ran for TWELVE HOURS straight to raise awareness of su***de for men in the LGBTQIA+ community. We’re in awe of Nige for his leadership and commitment to our community, and grateful that these funds will support OutLine Aotearoa and the important service we provide for anyone in our community who may be struggling.

You can still donate to this cause via the link in our bio.
He ngākau nui tō, Nige 🫂

Thanks to our board member, Julie and her partner Max from Tapin for supporting Nige yesterday 🌱🌈

OutLine Aotearoa stands in solidarity with PATHA in their condemnation of yesterday’s decision from Minister of Health Simeon Brown introducing a ban on new prescriptions of GnRH analogues (puberty blockers) for transgender children and young people who are not currently on them.

There is plenty of evidence that supports how critical access to gender affirming healthcare is for young people.

Such as 2024 research paper from McNamara et al,
‘An Evidence-Based Critique of “The Cass Review” on Gender-affirming Care for Adolescent Gender Dysphoria.’

“Children benefit from innovative medical treatments that improve their survival and quality of life. Pediatric care would all but cease if physicians denied treatments for which the evidence base is imperfect.” (McNamara et al., 2024, p. 15)

Dr Elizabeth McElrea, GP specialist in gender affirming care and PATHA Vice-President says,

“The ban will lead to a deterioration in mental health, increased risk of suicidality and increased dysphoria in gender diverse children and young people, and will put them at a higher risk of experiencing marginalisation and discrimination.”

TĀMAKI MAKAURAU RAINBOW RANGATAHI – come make siapo with us!

🌺 Siapo (also known as tapa) is one of the oldest Samoan art forms, made from the bark of the u‘a plant. You’ll learn the process and create your own siapo with the amazing .ai.lou.igoa 🌈 Toi Together is about making things side by side, slowing down, and sharing kōrero – for Rainbow rangatahi and someone they trust.
