Announcing our guest speaker for the Upper Room this month - John Pridmore!

John grew up in the East End of London. Following his parents’ divorce when he was ten, he began getting into trouble and eventually found himself in a young offenders’ prison. He left home at 15 and, by his twenties, had become a violent East End gangster deeply involved in London’s criminal underworld.

What happened afterwards would completely change the course of his life. John experienced a profound conversion that led him away from violence and crime and towards a life of faith and service. He went on to work alongside people such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta and has helped young people, including those caught up in gang life in the Bronx, discover their gifts and build more positive futures.

His true-crime autobiography, From Gangland to Promised Land, became an international bestseller and has been translated into numerous languages. He has since written two further books, A Gangster’s Guide to God and Journey to Freedom. His remarkable story has also been featured across television, radio and other media throughout Ireland, the United States, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom and Asia.

John currently lives in Ireland and, over the past 22 years, has spoken to more than three million people around the world at conferences, universities, schools and prisons. At World Youth Day in Sydney, he addressed an audience of approximately 500,000 young people.

John has now shared his story in 56 countries. His extraordinary journey from the criminal underworld of East London to a life dedicated to faith and helping others continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
