This beautiful orchid, Cymbidium ‘Sweet Louise’, has been named in honour of Sweet Louise, with $5 from the sale of every plant going towards our 2026 fundraising efforts this Sweet October.

The parents of this cross are Cym. Camouflage Candy 'DT6' and Cym. Red Sox 'Black Fire'. This cross was registered in the name of a charity dear to Susan's heart, the naming was approved by the Sweet Louise charity. 🏃‍♀️💗 The countdown is on! 🏃‍♂️💗

In less than four weeks, thousands of runners and walkers will take to the streets for the 2026 Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Marathon presented by ASICS – and we’re incredibly proud to have a special group of runners taking on the challenge for Sweet Louise! 🌸

Whether they’re tackling the full marathon, half marathon, 11km Traverse, 5km or Kids Marathon, they’re not just pounding the pavements – they’re helping bring care, comfort and connection to Kiwis living with advanced breast cancer and their whānau. 💕

A huge thank you to everyone who has already signed up to run for Sweet Louise. Your commitment, fundraising and determination means so much to our community. 🙌🏼

Every dollar raised can help provide practical support when families need it most, including:

❤️ Support groups and connection with others who understand

🎀 Today, 1 October, marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀

For the Sweet Louise community, October is a time to shine a light on advanced breast cancer – also known as secondary, stage 4 or metastatic breast cancer – and the reality of living with it here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Today, we acknowledge everyone living through a breast cancer diagnosis, and we’re thinking of the incredible people in our Sweet Louise community who are navigating life with incurable breast cancer, alongside their partners, children, whānau and friends. 💗

We’re thinking of the difficult days, the uncertainty, the appointments and the treatments – but also the laughter, the precious moments, the connections and the memories that make life so meaningful.

And we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who helps bring care, comfort and connection to our community.

💕 To our amazing Support Coordinators, who walk alongside our members and their whānau, offering a listening ear, practical support and a sense that they don’t have to face this alone.

💕 To the wonderful Sweet October hosts who, throughout October, are bringing friends, whānau and colleagues together, raising a cup of kindness and raising funds to support Kiwis living with advanced breast cancer.

💕 And to every supporter, volunteer, friend and member of our community who helps make Sweet Louise a place of care, connection and belonging.

💙 Thank you, Race4Life 💙

We were touched to see our wonderful Sweet Louise community member Karen Barnett featured in this beautiful story about Race4Life.

Over the years, Race 4 Life Trust have welcomed and hosted many members of our Sweet Louise community, giving them the chance to forget about cancer for a little while, experience something extraordinary and simply enjoy being together.

We want to say a huge thank you to the entire Race4Life team, the volunteers, drivers and everyone who has made these unforgettable days possible - a day filled with excitement, laughter, connection and a whole lot of joy. 🏎️💨. 💙

While it’s incredibly sad to see Race4Life take its final lap, what you’ve created will live on in the memories of the people whose lives you’ve touched.

🏐 Thank you for an incredible day of netball! 🩷

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the recent Tere Bissell Foundation Netball Tournament, which brought together an amazing 40 teams for a morning of netball, connection and remembering Tere’s legacy.

We’re thrilled to share that $8,000 was raised, with $4,000 donated to Sweet Louise and $4,000 to Child Cancer Foundation. Your generosity will help us continue providing care, comfort and practical support to Kiwis living with advanced breast cancer and their whānau.

Our Central North Island Support Coordinator, Lisa, was there on the day and said:

“It was an amazing morning. The teams were incredibly passionate both about their netball game and supporting Tere’s legacy.”

Lisa also admits the morning started with a little challenge of her own - speaking on the microphone in front of the crowd! 😄

Thank you to everyone who organised, played, supported, donated and helped make the tournament such a special event. Your generosity is making a real difference and helping keep Tere’s caring spirit and legacy alive. 🩷
