💗 It was lovely to see these beautiful photos shared this week from a gorgeous high tea fundraiser held in honour of a woman supported by Sweet Louise and a much-loved friend of the group.

The afternoon was a celebration of friendship and connection, with guests enjoying a blind raffle, handmade earrings, and a silent auction featuring stunning artwork.

Laura, one of the organisers, shared:

"It was an afternoon of celebration while also raising money for Sweet Louise and the amazing work you do. We have witnessed the incredible generosity that Sweet Louise offers our friend and the joy it gives her to be able to do nice things for herself. Thank you so much for all the practical support that you offer those who need it most."

Together, the group raised an incredible $1,500, and we are so grateful to receive this generous donation.

To everyone involved, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief in what we do. Your support means the world to us, helping us continue to provide vital support to the Sweet Louise community and those living with incurable breast cancer. 💖

🌸 Today is a special day for the Sweet Louise community. It’s the day our one and only Louise would have celebrated her birthday. 💝

Today, we celebrate an incredible woman, while also taking a moment to reflect on what Louise’s life and legacy have meant for so many Kiwis.

If there was anyone who showed unbelievable determination to live life to the fullest, it was Louise. She never allowed her advanced incurable breast cancer diagnosis to define her or limit her dreams. 💪

Louise was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 27 years old. Two years later, she was told her cancer had advanced to a secondary stage and she was given just two years to live.

Louise exceeded all medical expectations and went on to live another full and vibrant 10 years.

After her passing, Louise’s husband, Scott, found a diary. Inside, Louise had written about how, every day, she chose to do something positive for herself — whether that was going for a walk, having a coffee with friends, or enjoying a massage.

Louise’s determination to make the most of every day continues to inspire us all. To honour her incredible legacy, Scott established Sweet Louise, a charity dedicated to supporting New Zealanders living with incurable breast cancer.

Louise’s kindness, determination, and bravery are the foundations of what makes Sweet Louise so special, and they are qualities we continue to see throughout our community each and every day. 💕

As we mark this special day, we hope Louise’s legacy inspires you to make the most of every day, no matter how you choose to do it.

Meet Lottie and Brad 💞

Lottie is taking part in the Walk 50K This May challenge for Sweet Louise, in memory of her beautiful mum, Laura.

“My mum had the nicest smile,” says Lottie.
“I know that Sweet Louise helped my mum smile. I have some photos of my mum smiling at Sweet Louise events. I love those photos.”

Lottie’s dad, Brad, shares:

“When Laura was diagnosed with incurable breast cancer, our world changed overnight. Lottie and her sister were so little. Suddenly, Laura was managing ongoing appointments, treatment plans, and side effects — alongside all the things no one prepares you for. The fear, the exhaustion, and the pressure of trying to keep life moving with little ones while everything feels uncertain.

Sweet Louise was there for Laura when she needed it most. A Sweet Louise Support Coordinator checked in regularly and explained things clearly. Coffee catch-ups and connection with a community made Laura feel less alone. Practical help, like grocery vouchers, supported our family when finances were tight.

Lottie thinks about her mum every day and wants to do all she can to help others have a big smile like hers, which is why she decided to take part in Walk 50K This May. We’ve walked to school instead of driving, our friends and family have rallied to take Lottie on extra walks, and she even completed a mud run this year to keep things fun!

Sweet Louise helped Laura through her toughest days. Giving back to the people who supported us through our hardest time is really important to me — a way of passing it on. Lottie may not fully understand it yet, but she knows Sweet Louise was there for her mum when she needed it most. We both want to make sure Sweet Louise is there for everyone facing their hardest days.

I’m so grateful to everyone taking part and raising funds this May. Sweet Louise can’t do this important work without you. Your fundraising doesn’t just support a cause — it supports families like ours with practical help, compassion, and care. Thank you for helping families like mine receive this amazing support when they need it most.”

A very special thank you to Brad and Lottie for sharing, we truly appreciate all of your efforts 🙏🏼💞

On Saturday the 23rd of May, Jess Bickford from Team Bickford took on an incredible 50kms as part of the Walk 50K in May challenge for Sweet Louise.

Jess completed the challenge in honour of her mum, who is navigating advanced breast cancer, and for everyone facing their own cancer journey.

While many were still sleeping, Jess set off at 3am — a time often described as one of the loneliest of hours for those going through cancer treatment.

Jess shared:
“There were moments throughout the morning where it felt physically and mentally tough, but every step was made easier because of the incredible love and support surrounding me.”

Throughout the morning, friends and whānau joined Jess along the way, with some completing their own marathon distances in support. Her dad Donovan and friend Connor matched every single step, and even Jess’s nan hit the pavement, running in support of her efforts — a beautiful reflection of the love surrounding Team Bickford throughout the morning. 💓

One of the most beautiful parts of the Sweet Louise community is witnessing the love, strength, and support that surrounds people when it’s needed most.

“To everyone who showed up, checked in, donated, ran beside me, or simply sent words of encouragement — thank you. Your support carried me through more than you know.” — Jess

Jess completed the 50kms in just over 6.5 hours. Together, Jess and Team Bickford have raised an incredible $3,715 for the Sweet Louise community. These funds will help support other Kiwi women and their families navigating incurable breast cancer.

Jess also shared:
“Today was about so much more than running. It was about community, strength, resilience, and showing up for people who need it most. My heart is so full.”

Thank you, Jess, for raising awareness, for your commitment and dedication, and for sharing so much aroha with both your mum and the wider Sweet Louise community. We are so grateful for everything you have done. 🫶🏼

Today, we are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dame Jools Topp, one half of one of Aotearoa’s most loved and iconic entertainers. 💔

Jools brought joy and laughter to generations of New Zealanders, while also facing her own journey with breast cancer with incredible courage and openness.

At Sweet Louise, we feel especially grateful to have had Jools and Lynda contribute to our Sweet October Cookbook, where they generously shared their beloved family recipe for Nana Topp’s legendary gingernut biscuits.

Alongside the recipe, they shared these beautiful words:

“Our Mum, Jean, is just the best baker and home cook in the world and whenever we go home we head straight for the biscuit tin. Mum’s gingernuts are legendary and after years of asking, she will finally share her treasured recipe, passed down from our Nana Topp.”

It was such a special glimpse into the love, humour and family connection that the Topp family embodied so naturally.

We are holding Lynda, their whānau, friends and all who loved Jools close in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you, Dame Jools, for the laughter, the memories, and the joy you brought to so many across Aotearoa. ❤️

🌸 Supporting Sweet Louise Through Flowers, Kindness & Community 🎀

Our fundraising specialist Nida was recently delighted to spot these beautiful blooms from Rose Scents at Rise and Shine Cafe in Paerata Rise. 💐

“It was so lovely to see the beautiful fresh flowers and the Sweet Louise logo alongside them!” 💗

Behind Rose Scents is the wonderful Louise Paul - artisan florist, business owner, and now a proud Walk 50K This May participant taking on an incredible 100km challenge! 👟✨

Louise has been supporting Sweet Louise since March 2025 through her business, generously donating 5% of daily flower sales to help provide care and support for New Zealanders living with incurable breast cancer.

Louise shared:
“This charity means the world to me, especially after my breast cancer diagnosis late last year. Your support can make a real difference.” 💕

We’re so grateful for Louise’s generosity, kindness, and ongoing support.

A special shoutout also to Tabitha-Rose, Louise’s granddaughter, who has been an amazing supporter of Sweet Louise too. After participating in our Sweet October fundraiser, she has also helped create beautiful gifts and cards featured throughout the Rose Scents business. Her creativity and kindness are helping make a real difference 🌷
