Auckland Opera Studio

Auckland Opera Studio First they learn to sing . . . then to fly. somewhere their talents can thrive. We want to help New Zealand's young opera talents to find their way and flourish!

The years following opera training are crucial yet professional coaching is most often not financially viable for young singers. The Auckland Opera Studio was established to provide New Zealand's opera singers with personalised coaching, at no cost to themselves, within an environment of knowledge, enthusiasm and support . . . We provide this professional support to both young singers and successful professional opera singers - offering the opportunity for them to realise their full potential, both within New Zealand and in preparation for International study and performance work. We also provide a space for young pianists interested in accompanying or coaching these classes. Frances Wilson’s school of development for New Zealand’s top young opera singers - The Auckland Opera Studio – has been forging the way for New Zealand’s future operatic stars for over ten years. Frances has dedicated her life to fostering that certain sound so present in the Bel Canto style of singing taught by the likes of Dame Sister Mary Leo, Virginia Zeani and Frances herself and made famous by such indelible voices as Dame Kiri Tekanawa, Dame Malvina Major and the late Dame Heather Begg. Board of Trustees: Frances Wilson, Stephen Fitzgerald, Peter Rowe, Vlasta Shanahan, Wayne Hughes, Niamh McMahon and Jack Bourke

🎶 One last Zealand concert before London! 🇳🇿➡️🇬🇧

This Sunday marks my final fundraising concert before I head to London to begin my journey at the National Opera Studio, and I'd love to see you there!

If you're after one last "Ridgey fix" before I disappear overseas... 😂 come along!

A huge thank you to Auckland Opera Studio for so generously hosting this special concert. I'm incredibly grateful for your support and for giving me the opportunity to celebrate this next chapter surrounded by such wonderful people.

I'm also so thankful to the incredible lineup of singers and pianist who have kindly agreed to perform alongside me. I can't wait to share the stage with you all!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. It would mean so much to have you there as I perform one last time in New Zealand before heading off to London.

One week from tonight, the Great Hall fills with the sound of a full orchestra, a choir, and four extraordinary soloists giving everything they have to Carmen, Tosca, Faust and more.
