Suju began her artistic journey under the guidance of her father, the late Artist Balwad, and later studied at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, where Artist Prabhakar Kolte was a strong influence. She completed her post-graduation in murals at the same institution.
Her work has earned prestigious recognitions, including the Maharashtra State Award (Student Category) in 1981 and the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society National Award in 1986. Suju has held 31 solo and dual exhibitions across Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, and Pune, and recently exhibited at the Visual Arts Gallery of the India Habitat Centre.
She has participated in international group shows in India, Australia, the USA, and Dubai, and has presented her work in Boston and at the Winnipeg Design Festival. With over 220 murals in mosaic, wood, paint, and metal, her art enhances spaces across India and Dubai.
Based in Pune, Suju has spent nearly four decades teaching art at her studio, conducted workshops at institutions such as Manipal University and the National Institute of Design, and served as Joint Director of the Pune Biennale (2015–2020). She is also a founding member of ‘Art Mandai,’ an inclusive platform supporting accessible art.
