A turtle, a fishing hook, and five unexpected lives on the line.

When the Forest Department brought in this Indian flap-shell turtle, our primary goal was to safely remove a fishing hook caught in her mouth. But an X-ray revealed a major surprise… she was carrying five eggs! Suddenly, our team was responsible for six lives, making every single move count.

Thanks to careful medical intervention, we extracted the hook and treated her wounds. There is truly no greater feeling than releasing a wild animal back home, especially knowing her five future offspring get a second chance to thrive, too.

With Goa’s streams and rivers running full, the monsoon is prime time for crocodiles to go exploring. For this little fellow, the expedition took a detour: straight into a well, to the considerable alarm of the locals.

He was not pleased to see us. Every approach was met with a hiss and a warning snap, the universal crocodilian way of saying “I have this entirely under control.” He did not have it under control. Wells are excellent at keeping water in and crocodiles too, and no amount of attitude was going to get him up those walls.

So he did his job, and we did ours. A well-coordinated effort by the Fire Department, the Forest Department and Team RESQ had him out of the well and back in the wild before the morning was over, hissing at us the whole way as a matter of principle.

He will never know we were on his side, and that is exactly as it should be. A crocodile that trusts humans is a crocodile in trouble. Wild, feisty and free is the only version of him we want to see.

Our thanks to the Goa Forest Department and the Fire Department for a rescue that went exactly to plan, if not to his.

Glue traps do not discriminate. They get laid out for rats, but they just as easily catch birds and snakes, anything unlucky enough to land on them.

These two red vented bulbuls were rescued from exactly that fate, feathers bound in adhesive, flight compromised, and time working against them. Our team spent hours gently freeing each feather without causing further damage. Both birds recovered fully and were released together.

The real fix for a rat problem rarely lives in a trap. It lives in cleaner outdoor spaces, sealed food waste, and fewer reasons for rodents to move in to begin with. Less mess, fewer rats, and far fewer birds paying the price for pest control gone wrong. And where rat trapping is genuinely necessary, there are more humane options: cage traps that allow safe release, which are far less likely to seal the fate of a bird or snake that never asked to be part of the equation. Choose those instead.

Third degree burns. A tail that couldn’t be saved. And a langur who simply refused to let that be the end of his story.

Found wedged atop a tin partition after an electrocution, this grey langur was too frightened and too injured for manual rescue, so our team darted him for a safer, low stress capture. A tail amputation followed. Losing a primary balance organ sounds catastrophic for an arboreal species, but langurs are neurologically built for recalibration, and he proved it, clearing every mobility milestone before release.

Watch him go straight back up the tree at the end. Balance: reclaimed. Electric lines: hopefully avoided from here on.

इतिहास गवा है.. a 700+ kg gaur picked the worst possible place to get stuck in Pune! Earlier today, a sub-adult male Indian gaur (Bos gaurus), managed to slip and wedge himself between two PMC water supply pipelines at Vishranti Nagar. Alerted by local residents, the Pune Forest Department and our RESQ CT team rushed on site.

What followed looked deceptively calm. The situation and animal was assessed, an extraction strategy was formulated, after which it was tranquilized  by an experienced RESQ wildlife veterinarian, secured with straps, lifted clear with a crane, settled into a sternal position to protect his airway, brought out of sedation, and moved to the Wildlife Transit Treatment Centre at Bavdhan. He will be released to suitable habitat soon!

People expect these operations to be chaos. They are not, when every agency knows its role. The Pune Forest Department, Pune City Police, Fire Brigade, PMC, RESQ CT technical field operation teams and the residents who raised the alarm each did exactly what was needed, exactly when it was needed. A rescue going smoothly is not luck. It is preparation doing its quiet work.

बिबट्या शांत…

अस्वस्थ फक्त आपणच.

Some rescues test your patience more than your skill.

When the usual methods fail, you don’t rush —
you slow down, rethink, and try again.

Because safety comes first.
After a quick health check, the jackal was released back into the wild!

Hit by a vehicle, fighting for life, and unknowingly carrying hope. A critically injured striped hyena mother survived a road accident and intensive treatment, while her newborn cub, born against the odds, received round-the-clock neonatal care. She has now returned to the grasslands. Her cub remains under rehabilitation, growing stronger each dayand working steadily towards going back to the wild when he’s ready.
