For many students, time spent on an Erasmus+ activities is the highlight of their yoth.

Funding for Erasmus+ mobilities however, can never be taken for granted, especially with negotiations for the EU’s next long-term budget well underway,

Although the proposed 40.8 billion euros by the European Commission looks like a 50% increase, the reality is that this does not account for the inflation much of the education sector has been experiencing.

Ahead of our event, ‘European Mosaic: Irish Citizen Dialogue on the Next EU Long-Term Budget’, on the 7th September, we spoke to some our team about their Erasmus+ experience.

To have your say on the importance of allocating sufficent funding to the Ersamus+ programme and to register for our event, check out the link in our bio 🔗

Did you know that the European Commission is changing the way it funds sectors such as agriculture, social cohesion and migration support?

Under the EU’s next long-term budget, all of these sectors and more will be funded under one funding stream, known as NRPPs.

But what is an NRPP and do you get a say on how these areas will be funded?

Chris has broken it all down ahead of our event, ‘European Mosaic: Irish Citizen Dialogue on the Next EU Long-Term Budget’, on the 7th September.

In recent days, the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, located on the northern coast of Africa, experienced a sudden and significant increase in the number of people arriving from neighbouring Morocco through irregular migration routes.

The scale and speed of the arrivals placed considerable pressure on local authorities, emergency services and reception facilities. Tragically, the events also resulted in the death of at least 72 migrants, prompting concern across the European Union.

Following an emergency meeting of Ministers of Home Affairs chaired by Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan TD as part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026, ministers expressed solidarity with Spain and agreed that protecting the EU’s external borders is a shared European responsibility.

The events in Ceuta have highlighted the challenges that can arise when large numbers of people seek to enter the European Union through irregular migration routes in a short period of time.

They have also underlined the importance of cooperation between Member States, neighbouring countries and EU institutions to respond effectively, protect human dignity, uphold international obligations, respond to disinformation and manage the EU’s external borders and ensure the Schengen area continues to function effectively.

This is Sanem’s story. Follow along for Part 2.
