European Movement Ireland were delighted to host our second EU Unfiltered Roundtable of the year on May 20th in the new Europe Direct centre in Carrigaline Library, Co.Cork. This brought together members of the public to discuss a wide variety of issues at both local at European levels.

We spoke to young people who highlighted concerns about the environment, the importance of cultural exchanges, the spread of disinformation in online spaces and the EU’s lack of upholding its values in its response to Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people. We also held an insightful discussion on how Ireland can best navigate the Presidency of the Council of the EU from July and how we can ensure that EU values are at the forefront of the agenda.

🇮🇪 The future of Ireland remains a defining political question.

A majority in Ireland would support a united Ireland in the EU if a referendum were held tomorrow, 59% in Ireland would vote in favour, and 63% in Northern Ireland, according to European Movement Ireland’s Island of Ireland EU Poll 2026.

European Movement Ireland CEO David Geary said; “Ten years on from Brexit, there is clear and growing pro-European outlook in the North, shaped in part by the legacy of the UK EU Referendum, alongside a strong showing of support for a united Ireland within the EU. Ireland is also set for its first EU Presidency without the UK, given this, it is vital that the North’s voice is reflected in the Presidency and in wider shared island initiatives. Our research, tracking NI–EU relations and EU sentiment in Northern Ireland over the past four years, points to important discussions ahead about the island’s future.”

More than five times as many people in Northern Ireland trust the EU than the Stormont Executive, according to a new opinion poll.

Asked who they trust, 28pc say Brussels; 20pc the Irish Government; 8pc the British Government, and just 5pc the Executive.

However, almost four in 10 people (38pc) here say they trust none of those institutions.

The poll was conducted by Amárach Research for European Movement Ireland. It carries out annual all-island research on European affairs.

As the 10th anniversary of the Brexit referendum approaches, 73pc of people here say they would vote to rejoin the EU if a referendum was held tomorrow.

💥 Europe is changing — and so are views across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

European Movement Ireland Island of Ireland EU Poll 2026 with Amárach Research is here!

From support for EU membership and EU US relations to views on the EU’s direction, defence, trust in the EU, and the question of a united Ireland within the EU, this explores what people really think. 📌
