It was a busy weekend for the MELF Fellows of Cohort Five.

On Saturday they did the Walking Tour of Catherine's Dublin and then paid a visit to the EPIC Museum where they learned all about Irish history and culture, especially immigration.

On Sunday they went to Co Meath for a visit to Newgrange and Knowth where the largest neolithic tombs in Western Europe are situated. These passage tombs are 5,200 years old. The Fellows had a guided tour and were introduced to the neolithic art and the tri spiral. They were also able to ascend one of the passage tombs at Knowth. At Newgrange itself the Fellows were able to enter the inner chamber of the passage tomb where during the Winter Solstice the light from the rising sun aligns with a neo lithic window box and illuminates the chamber.

Week Two sees a chat today with MIA CEO Mary O'Donovan and a visit to the Mater Hospital.
