The Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Sport Committee (EESC) met in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 14–15 October 2026.

Discussions covered recent sporting milestones, stronger sports quality standards, Unified Sports, inclusive coach training, partnerships with European sports federations, and preparations for the Special Olympics World Games in Santiago 2027 and Switzerland 2029.

Following the excitement of the Sarajevo Judo Open, our judokas had the opportunity to give a demonstration of adaptive judo in front of the audience of the IJF - International Judo Federation World Championships - showing that everyone is welcome on the tatami!

Only smiles and cheers for the Special Olympics Open Water swimmers who took part in the last leg of the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup 2026 last week!

Our swimmers came from Spain, Hungary, and Gibraltar to show their prowess and brave the open water in Barcelona.

Special Olympics Celebrates 50 Years of UPS in Germany!

Steffi Weigel, Special Olympics Deutschland Athlete Leader, and Sven Albrecht, Special Olympics Europe Eurasia President, were proud to join UPS regional and global teams at a recent celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of UPS in Germany.

Steffi, a Special Olympics Nordrhein-Westfalen spokesperson and member of the Special Olympics Germany Athlete Council, and Sven, gave a powerful speeches focused on the joint mission of our organisations: together we create inclusive communities with the human being always at the centre of our work.

Thank you, UPS, for welcoming us to your celebration and your ongoing focus on inclusion. Long may our growing partnership continue!

Today we closed the Special Olympics Judo Open Sarajevo 2026 with an exciting Kata competition!

Eight pairs of judokas with and without intellectual disabilities, took to the IJF World Kata Championship tatami to show their prowess in both Kata and Unified Kata.

History is being made in Sarajevo!

The Special Olympics Judo Open Sarajevo 2026 has brought together 130 judokas with intellectual disabilities from 18 countries to compete in adaptive judo at Hotel Hills Arena.

Held between the IJF World Veterans and Kata Championships, today's competition celebrated skill, respect, friendship, and inclusion at every ability level!
