One year since the ceasefire was announced.

But Palestinians are still being killed. Families are still being displaced. Homes are still being destroyed. Ethnic cleansing continues.

A ceasefire should mean an end to the killing. It should mean safety, dignity and the chance to rebuild.

One year on, we cannot mistake a ceasefire announcement for an end to the violence. The genocide has not ended.

The genocide in Palestine is not over. Ethnic cleansing continues in the West Bank, and Palestinians in Gaza are still being forced to survive in inhuman conditions.

In a powerful op-ed for the Irish Examiner, ActionAid Ireland CEO Karol Balfe writes about the ongoing devastation in Palestine, the international community’s failure to act and why the world must not normalise what is happening.

There must be justice and accountability for Palestine.

Ireland has increased its overseas aid budget but the increase falls short of what is needed.

During a time of growing humanitarian crises, climate change, attacks on women’s rights, and cuts to aid across the world, we need Ireland to step up as a global leader.

We welcome the fact that Ireland has not followed other European countries in cutting aid, but we need meaningful progress towards the Government’s commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on overseas aid. And this increase falls short.

A limited increase does not match the urgency of the hour.

Four weeks after devastating floods swept through Nepal, the headlines may have moved on. But for the people living through the aftermath, the crisis is far from over.

Thousands of families are still facing displacement, loss and uncertainty, with communities needing food, clean water, safe shelter, healthcare and support to rebuild their lives.

ActionAid has been there since day one, working alongside local partners and communities to respond to their most urgent needs.

Nepal still needs our support.
