We need your support and are challenging you to cycle 100km in 1 day or 1 week or 1 month this Summer to raise vital funds for Women and Babies in The National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.

Meet Kasia, one of our incredible NMH Midwives who took on the cycle challenge last year and absolutely smashed it!🚴‍♀️

Kasia says:

"Every day, I witness the strength and resilience of families during some of their most vulnerable moments. It’s an honour to support them through such deeply personal experiences.

Last July, I cycled 100 km as part of the Holles Street Summer Cycle Challenge to raise vital funds for the NMH Foundation.

I love cycling, but I love it even more when I can ride for a cause close to my heart. The funds raised go directly toward advancing maternal and neonatal care in Ireland - supporting families just like the ones I care for every day."

🌺👟The countdown to this year's Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is on! 🌺👟

We’d like to highlight a member of this year's , Mum Jenny who is running with her sister-in-law Aoife.

Jenny has very kindly shared her extraordinary story with us:

“Last April 2025, our lives were turned upside down when I attended my local maternity unit in Waterford after noticing reduced fetal movements. That visit set off a chain of events I never could have imagined. I was urgently referred to The National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, that same day where our baby was diagnosed with hydrops fetalis caused by a silent parvovirus infection I didn’t even know I had.

By the time we arrived, our baby was critically ill, suffering from severe anaemia and going into heart failure. The team in The NMH acted immediately. They performed an intrauterine blood transfusion - a procedure that quite literally saved our baby’s life. Holles Street became my home for the next few months, another transfusion was needed, our baby was sedated to give him every chance to recover, all of which was done while our baby was still in the womb. It was very touch and go over the months that followed but I was supported every step of the way by the most incredible, compassionate professionals and our little miracle was born in July last year.

There will never be words strong enough to fully express the gratitude I feel for the incredible team who cared for us whose expertise and skill gave our baby boy Cillian a chance at life. I am deeply grateful for their constant care and support throughout my long term stay on the prenatal ward.

This fundraiser is not only about giving back, but about honouring the people who gave us our miracle. I will carry their kindness with me forever, and I will never stop being thankful for what they have done for us.”

We wish Jenny, Aoife and all of our incredible supporters the very best of luck on the big day!

🦘Today we are celebrating ! 🦘

Kangaroo care is when parent’s place their newborn baby against their bare chest, also known as skin-to-skin holding. This encourages bonding with your newborn baby, promoting breastfeeding as well as many other benefits! Both parents and babies can benefit from Kangaroo care, and our staff at The National Maternity Hospital encourage and promote this method.

The NMH Foundation is delighted to support Kangaroo Care with the ACORN teams and help women and babies to thrive, arrive and survive.

Today, 5th May, on International Day of the Midwife, we’re celebrating the incredible midwives at The National Maternity Hospital! 🎉💙

We have over 260 midwives in The NMH who provide exceptional care to women and their families every day.

We met with some of the Emergency Room team and asked: What inspired you to become a midwife?

Their answers reflect compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to being there when patients need care most.

In the Emergency Room, no two days are the same. This dedicated and diverse team supports up to 50 patients each day through urgent, unexpected, and often complex situations, offering reassurance, expertise, and kindness at every step.

In celebrating International Day of the Midwife, please feel free to share a message of thanks to our midwives in the comments below. 😊

Massive to NMH Parents Eimear and Niall for running an incredible 103 miles in honour of the 103 days their son Teddy spent in NICU all while raising funds for The National Maternity Hospital. 💞

They’ve kindly shared their incredible story:

“Our son Teddy came into the world when I was just 24 weeks pregnant last September after I contracted Sepsis. Teddy and us as a family had so much to overcome.

We spent 103 days, 16 weeks, 4 months from September to January in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in both Dublin and Sligo.

Across this time, we had many harrowing moments where it felt like Teddy would never come home with us. We spent every hour we could physically manage by his bedside, willing him on.

Despite all he endured, he learned to breath independently, feed from breast and bottle without a tube, be held without desaturating and likewise we learned how to just simply love him and care for him without needing reassurance from monitors, nurses and doctors and on the 103rd day, we brought our miracle boy home one week before he was due and never looked back since.

Teddy's story would not have had such a positive outcome had we not received such wonderful care from The National Maternity Hospital’s NICU.

Teddy’s consultants and the incredible specialist NICU nurses became our family during our stay. They held us up when we were at rock bottom, encouraged us to maintain hope on the darkest days and truly are the reason we brought our boy home.

One year on from Teddy’s birth, Niall and I want to raise as much money as we possibly can to donate. Across the month of September, both Niall and I will individually run 103 miles. 1 mile for every day Teddy spent in intensive care.

We never imagined this would happen us, and whilst we wouldn’t wish this on anyone - the reality is that it can happen to anyone.”

Thank you both for helping families here in Holles Street!
