🌊 Excited to announce our first Wavemaker at Sult Bar, University of Galway on October 9th, Jan-Stefan Fritz!

After years in Brussels lobbying the EU for increased support for ocean science, Jan-Stefan is joining the University of Galway to co-lead a new initiative focused on science-based international cooperation across the Atlantic and beyond.

Stefan’s core belief? The marine science community is pivotal in shaping a peaceful, sustainable future for our oceans.

October 9th we’ll be tackling a vital question: In a world facing environmental and societal turmoil, how can marine scientists drive greater global cooperation?

Climate Carnival 2026 launched with our unique Sauna Sessions Field Trip event.

Bringing together a group of over 50 people to experience the land, the river and a collective group of like minded people in Stradbally, Co. Laois.

A cocktail of knowledge was shared on rivers, land, mythology and the passion it takes to explore it and protect it.

This event would not of been made possible without our key sponsor Business For Biodiversity Ireland

Thank you for believing in us and making this ambitious, outrageous, novel and unique event happen!

We’ve spent the last week looking through all the videos and imagery from Climate Carnival and, quite frankly, it has not been helpful in our attempts to move on.

So prepare yourselves for some serious Climate Carnival overload.

Over the next week we’ll be thanking all the brilliant people who made it happen, our speakers, performers, partners, supporters, volunteers, exhibitors and everyone who mucked in.

And a huge well done to our founder Tom Popple for having the ambition and courage to pull this whole thing together and, more importantly, for creating this brilliant, slightly bonkers community around it.

One week later and normal life is feeling wildly underwhelming.

Small talk is ruined. Expectations are unreasonable. And apparently quitting your job to grow vegetables and live off the land is considered an overreaction out here.

On October 9th, Climate Cocktail Club heads west to Sult Bar at University of Galway, in partnership with the Ryan Institute, hosts of The Atlantic Summit Galway taking place 8-9th October.

And there’s one big question on the table:

In a world of environmental and societal turmoil, what can the marine science community contribute to promoting more cooperation?

We’ll bring together voices from across marine science, climate and beyond to explore what cooperation can look like when the challenges we face don’t respect borders, disciplines or silos.

Expect big ideas, open conversation, new connections and, naturally, a few cocktails. 🌊🍸
