I have complex endometriosis and, despite being approved for the HSE’s Endometriosis Surgery Abroad Interim Scheme (ESAIS), I still haven’t been able to access the specialist treatment I need.

The London service I approached advised that my case was too complex. I am now researching specialist care in the USA, but I cannot afford to pay for surgery upfront. I am asking my private insurer whether it can pay the treating clinic directly.

I have written to the Office of the Taoiseach and the Minister for Health requesting urgent intervention, a coordinated treatment plan and funding for flights, postoperative accommodation and necessary expenses.

Following the recent RTÉ Prime Time programme, I enquired with ESAIS about the Warsaw centre featured. ESAIS has confirmed in writing that the centre is not approved under the scheme. It says information about patients receiving ESAIS reimbursement there is “factually inaccurate” and that no patients have been reimbursed under ESAIS for treatment at that centre.

My concern is with ESAIS and whether it provides a workable route to care for patients like me. I have approval, but I still have no suitable treatment arranged.

This is why my petition for an expert Irish endometriosis framework and a national inquiry continues. Patients need clear information, appropriate specialist care and a financially accessible way to receive it.

How are you feeling about this year's budget? What would you like to see prioritised?

Most of us would move heaven and earth in order to care for our loved ones. But the spiralling cost of living is forcing most of us to make desperate choices, like skipping a doctor's appointment, not turning on the heating, or choosing which bills to pay.

Yesterday's Budget made it clear that this government is still bending to the whims and wishes of the wealthy few. They prioritised tax giveaways for inheritance and investment savings, subsidised fossil fuel companies and gambling corporations, and made it easier to sell business assets.
