Did you know 8-year-old children in Palestine's West Bank are being attacked in their homes right now?

"Settlers attacked our home and destroyed it," Izz al-Din told UNICEF on a recent visit. "They hit me in the head. I miss my home."

The world needs to know this. Every child has the right to live safely in their homes.

Conflict in the Middle East is devastating children in places like Iran, Lebanon and Gaza - but it's also disrupting the supplies keeping children alive across the globe.

When shipping routes are destabilised, the effects cascade. Right now:

✈️ Air freight costs for vaccines to Ethiopia and Nigeria is up to 70% more expensive
🚢 Sea freight for education materials to Yemen has more than doubled
🚛 Therapeutic food trucking into South Sudan has risen 30%

In Nigeria, rerouting syringes for a polio campaign targeting 12 million children cost an extra $200,000. In Afghanistan, nutrition supplies are now taking two months longer to arrive.

Every extra Euro spent on transport is one less Euro that reaches a child.

Despite this, UNICEF is keeping supplies moving. Thanks to sustained support from people like you, we have the flexibility to adapt when the world doesn't cooperate.

Palestinian children in Gaza are trapped in a cycle of suffering that must end.

Unbearable conditions mean children are being bitten by rats. They are contracting painful diseases. They are crying out in pain every single day.

Restrictions on humanitarian access are unacceptable.

Children need help now.

International humanitarian law must be upheld.

Are social media bans actually protecting children, or putting them at risk?

Governments around the world are introducing age restrictions on social media, but the reality is more complicated than a simple ban.

UNICEF, the world's leading children's rights agency, is calling for a smarter approach: one that brings governments, regulators, companies, children, and families to the same table to create digital environments that are truly safe, inclusive, and rights-respecting.

Because children's voices must be part of this conversation.

How does a girl in Gaza manage her period when sanitary pads are impossible to find?

It's a question most of us never have to ask. But for thousands of girls right now, it's a daily reality.

Through the support of our donors, UNICEF facilitates menstrual hygiene sessions, a safe space where girls can share their experiences, and provides hygiene kits with the essentials they need.

Rugby legend and UNICEF Ireland Ambassador Donncha O'Callaghan is in Sierra Leone this week speaking with children being helped by our incredible supporters.

He visited a school in Kenema where students are leading the charge against gender-based violence through their adolescent club. And he met young girls who walk 4km every single day just to access clean water.

These are the children your support reaches. Every donation to UNICEF - alongside help through Irish Aid - gives children like these the chance to build a brighter future. 💙

1 in 5 children worldwide are living through conflict. With Ireland's EU Council Presidency fast approaching, now is a critical moment to put the rights of these children - of every child - at the heart of EU policy.

Today, UNICEF Ireland joined with Plan International Ireland, Save the Children, and World Vision Ireland to explore this at EU House, Dublin.

Ireland has a key opportunity to set the agenda on how the EU can prioritise the protection of children in conflict across the globe. Let’s seize it.

What's happening in Palestine's West Bank, and why is it in the news?

Between January 2025 and May 2026, at least one Palestinian child has been killed, on average, every week, in the West Bank.

UNICEF is supporting children and their families so they can access safe water, sanitation and healthcare, and providing cash assistance, learning materials, and psychosocial care.
