Dance Cork Firkin Crane is unique in Ireland in that it is home to a professional working theatre seating 238 people as well as four fully-fitted dance studios. No other dance venue in the country can offer this combined facility. The building was erected as part of the Butter Market in mid 1850s. A major refurbishment in the 1980s adapted the space for use by dance professionals, audiences, and enthusiasts who wish to participate in dance of all kinds. We host a wide variety of dance classes and workshops as well as presenting our own Dance Cork Firkin Crane Presents programme of contemporary dance. The casual visitor can also drop in and see parts of the historic building as well as experiencing the lively energy of dance through interactive exhibitions in our Dance Interactive exhibition space.

Wishing the best of luck to Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre as they kick off their Autumn Dance Season tonight with WKcollective / Wanjiru Kamuyu's 'Portraits in Red'.

Dance Cork Firkin Crane are thrilled to also welcome Wanjiru Kamuyu to Cork city next week with 'An Immigrant's Story' as part of her Irish tour on 15 and 16 October.
Ireland Tour presented by Regional Dance Network - Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, Dance Limerick, Tipperary Dance and Dance Cork Firkin Crane in association with Ambassade de France en Irlande.

The WKcollective Ireland tour is supported by INSTITUT FRANÇAIS and Caisse Des Depots et Consignations' program, Mouvements.

Next month, choreographer Zoë Ashe-Browne joins us for a Ceist residency as she explores sound and movement as equally weighted compositional elements.

As part of the residency, Zoë leads a Professional Class and also presents a work in progress sharing on Thursday 22 October.

Disrupt Disability Arts Festival are delighted to partner with inclusivedancecork to welcome Ramesh Meyyappan to present a Visual Language workshop, on Sunday 18 October at DanceCorkFirkinCrane ✨

Ramesh Meyyappan is a theatre maker who develops performances using an eclectic mix of visual and physical theatre styles as he continually seeks to develop and extend his theatrical visual vocabulary. Ramesh is something of a pioneer, he has continually explored visual styles that allow him to make work entirely accessible to the mainstream audiences. Over the years, his solo performances and collaborations have toured nationally and internationally to much critical acclaim.

The Visual Language workshop is an introduction to and brief exploration of how a visual theatrical language can work. Using visual texts as a basis for exploration, participants will have an opportunity to play with visual ideas and consider a myriad of visual possibilities within ‘storytelling’ to create a short visual narrative using a range of physical and visual theatre techniques, including; choreographed movement and sign mime. Through the themes they will find their own characters and narrative ideas as a way to adapt and develop their own interpretation or version of the text given. Participants will explore visual theatrical vocabulary combining visual elements to support their storytelling and characterisation in a unique visual way without the use of sign language or spoken dialogue.
