Pudsey’s Grand Tour is in full swing — and these photos were far too lovely to keep until Friday! He’s already been visiting local schools and care homes, from Tower Hill and Miller Grange to Batt School, Cedar Court, Queen Emma’s School and Richmond Village.

A big shout-out to Witney Rotarians Dave Eustice and Chas Simpkins for helping make it all happen, and to everyone giving our favourite bear such a wonderful welcome in support of BBC Children in Need.

There’s more to come before Friday’s grand finale. Enjoy the smiles — and watch this space!

Pudsey is on tour! 🐻💛

What a lovely start to our Witney Rotary Children in Need tour this morning at Apollos Clothing Community Shop in Witney!

Pudsey received a wonderful welcome, including from Tamsin Gaskell, Chair of Trustees. There were smiles, waves and plenty of photo opportunities!

Apollos Clothing does brilliant work tackling clothing poverty and bringing our community together. Thank you to everyone at the shop for making our first stop so special.

More Pudsey adventures to come next week! 💛

A castle, a little history… and, of course, tea and cake! ☕🍰

What a lovely afternoon for Witney Rotary members and friends visiting beautiful Broughton Castle near Banbury.

Martin Fiennes, Lord Saye and Sele, gave us a fascinating and wonderfully engaging tour, sharing stories of the castle and his family’s history. We then enjoyed a good natter over tea, scones and cakes in the Stables Tearoom.

Huge thanks to our hosts for making everyone so welcome. Great company, plenty of smiles and another reminder that there’s much more to Rotary than meetings!

Rain, Rotary and a cuppa for World Polio Day! ☂ 💜

A little rain wasn’t going to stop Witney Rotary marking World Polio Day outside the Corn Exchange on Saturday 24 October!

With our End Polio Now board on display, we shared an important message about protecting children around the world from polio; and squeezed in a very welcome cuppa and cake too.

A big thank you to Witney Town Council for allowing us to display our campaign board outside the building.

Why purple? It recalls the dye used to mark children’s fingers after polio vaccination. We’ve added a touch of purple digitally to our evening Corn Exchange photo to illustrate the campaign’s colour.

Polio cases have fallen by 99.9% since 1988, but the job isn’t finished. Donations through Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign are matched two to one by the Gates Foundation.

Together, we can end polio! Find out more or donate: www.endpolio.org

£1,545 FOR SOBELL HOUSE - THANK YOU, WITNEY! 💙

What a wonderful result for our local community!

Following our recent fundraising activities, Witney Rotary was delighted to present a cheque for £1,545 to Sobell House Hospice today.

£320 was raised through our raffle at Richmond Villages Witney, and £1,225 during our Witney town centre street collection, with fantastic support from Windrush Radio.

The cheque was presented by Mike Alexander, our Club Treasurer, and David Connolly, our Club President, to Beth Marsh from Sobell House.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, bought raffle tickets, volunteered or helped spread the word. Your generosity will help Sobell House continue providing vital care and support to patients and families across Oxfordshire.

Together, we’re making a real difference! 💙

Witney Rotary recognised for supporting The Rotary Foundation! 🌍

We were delighted to welcome District Governor Kalpana Morris to our club lunch today.

Kalpana spoke warmly about Witney Rotary and presented President David Connolly with a certificate recognising our members’ contributions to The Rotary Foundation.

The Foundation supports Rotary’s charitable work around the world, including the campaign to end polio.

A lovely recognition of the generosity and commitment of our members, and a reminder that local Rotary clubs can make a difference far beyond their communities.

A brilliant new year of the Rotary Junior Community Award is under way at Witney Community Primary School.

Year 6 pupils are being encouraged to try new things, build confidence and make a positive difference through four areas: Community Service, Social Experiences, Physical Activity and New Skills.

The photographs give a flavour of what the Award can involve - from helping in the community and learning practical skills to getting active and experiencing something new.

This is only the start. Over the coming months we'll follow the pupils' progress and share some of their achievements as their JCA journey develops.

A big thank you to the pupils and families, Headteacher Mark Peacey, Year 6 teacher Mrs Hanson, and the Witney Rotary JCA team - Steve Holborough, Theresa Rees, Dave Eustice and Fraser Logue - for helping make these experiences possible.

Thank you Witney £1,225 raised for Sobell House

What a generous town! Our Witney town centre street collection on Saturday 3 October raised a fantastic £1,225 for Sobell House Hospice.

Thank you to everyone who donated and to all our volunteers. Special thanks to Rotarians Mike Alexander and Ron Spurs, and to Simon Oliver and Windrush Radio for the live broadcasting and music that helped bring the day to life.

Your generosity will help support compassionate hospice care for people across Oxfordshire and support for their loved ones. Please share our thanks!

We heard the story on Monday. Let’s show our support on Saturday!

On Monday 28 September, we welcomed Greg Birdseye, Sobell House trustee and charity ambassador, to Witney Rotary at Richmond Villages Witney. Greg shared his personal connection
to the hospice and helped us understand why its care means so much to local families.

The raffle raised a brilliant £320. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes, bought tickets and joined us for a lovely evening.

Now it’s Witney’s turn to get involved. We’ll be collecting for Sobell House in Witney town centre on Saturday 3 October, with Windrush Radio joining us. Look out for our Rotary gazebo, come and say hello, and give what you can.

Sobell House is President David Connolly’s chosen charity this year, and 2026 marks its 50th anniversary. You can learn more about its care here: https://sobellhouse.org/
