Critics derided the new rail line as a waste of money (where did we hear that before?). Yet in a short period of time it has surpassed all expectations and shortened previous trips between those destinations by over half, where it previously took over an hour by road (sounds familiar?). Small investment on local rail lines are likely to be more beneficial than gargantuan projects like HS2. What are we waiting for? We have had enough studies over the last 40 years... Time to rebuild the Carterton to Oxford line

The route has cut the journey time from over an hour by bus to just 35 minutes by train.
