๐โจ Wisp: A Story of Hope completely surprised us in the quietest and most powerful way.
At first glance, it feels gentle and simple. But as we read, we realised this story is carrying something much deeper. It speaks about displacement, memory, belonging, and what it means for a child to hold onto hope when the world around them feels uncertain.
What stayed with us most was the way the โwispโ wasnโt just about remembering the past. For Idris, who had never known life outside the refugee camp, the wisp became something else entirelyโฆ a promise that another future could still exist.
That is what makes this book so special. It helps children engage with incredibly difficult realities, but without removing tenderness, imagination, or light.
Zara Fraillon and Grahame Baker Smith have created something deeply human. A story that gently invites empathy rather than forcing it.
This is exactly why we created the KVL Young Citizensโ Library. Stories like this help young people not only learn about the world, but feel connected to the people within it. ๐
