About Us

We’re proud of where we’ve come from, but are even more excited about where we’re going. Join us for an adventure or two…. We are a collective of Creative Practitioners and voluntary sector Consultants with over a decade of experience working in collaboration. By cultivating opportunities for meaningful engagement and effective partnership working we devise ‘platforms’ to activate, challenge and unpick issues in order to create positive outcomes for individuals, organisations and communities. There has always been a natural connection between creativity and social change. Creative approaches have the power to reach out; sparking participation and unlocking new possibilities for people’s futures. Platform Thirty1 is a not-for-profit organisation. A street can disappear. But the stories don’t have to.

Re-Create The Streets began with an old map and a question: what did Newton’s Main Street look and feel like in the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

What followed was a community heritage hunt, photographs came out of drawers, memories came flooding back, old shops and characters were remembered, and a whole street began to take shape again.

Watercolour. Miniature shops. Oral histories. Peg people. Real voices. Real memories….And now the story is travelling.

Come and discover Re-Create The Streets at the Engagement Hub in Bolsover throughout September and October 2026.

For those who know Newton, come and recognise a piece of home. For those who don’t, come and discover what happens when a community brings its past back to life. Because sometimes, when you put all those memories together… you can recreate a whole street.

10am until 2pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This week residents have been handing in their summer creations bringing the Our Parish in Bloom total to a massive 2222!!!!

With 671 coming from Woburn House craft group thanks so much for your hard work.

As the kids go back to school we want to share with you some of the wonderful moments our Greater Creative Learner to Leader team of young people have had while delivering craft workshops to 5-11year olds in Blackwell parish.

It has been a joy to watch both leaders and participants bloom while getting stuck into a range of activities from circus themed puzzles, computer game design and imagination themed thrift art to origami animals and cowboy decorations, these kids have been busy.

🚌 The Greater creative yarn group have been on their travels……

Visiting Cosby Yarn Bomb in Cosby Leicestershire. We were blown away by the sheer scale of the project, with 80 installations across the whole village with business and private homes all getting involved.

We were so inspired by the different installations, particularly those made by schools and interactive community pieces.

We spotted many of the 🐒 hidden amongst the trail and were able to have a lovely cup of tea in the volunteer run hall.

We came away buzzing with excitement for this years project, with some even having a lesson in crochet on the bus!

🥔 For the last few weeks, Greater Creative’s Nature Project Group have been testing out a new potential community project that we’re hoping to launch across the parish – growing potatoes together this winter!
Using nothing more than supermarket bags for life, potatoes have been happily growing in back gardens, front gardens and even on doorsteps throughout the parish.
On Tuesday evening, we came together to weigh our harvests, celebrate everyone’s efforts and, of course, enjoy eating some of the potatoes we’d grown. We even handed out a few rosettes to some well deserved winners! 🏵️ One resident certainly stole the show, collecting several awards. We have to admit... they were the Top Spud on the night! 🏆🥔
Potato growing and potato picking have long been part of Blackwell Parish’s history, so it felt fitting to celebrate that heritage while creating some new memories together. It was such a simple, fun way to bring people together, and we can’t wait to get more residents involved in our next community Potato Grow Along.

Who knows... together we could be planting the seeds for the first-ever Blackwell Parish Potato Festival in 2027! 🎉🥔

What a beautiful evening we’ve just had at Hilcote Community Centre, with hosting the truly inspiring Ripple Effect Project.

It was a real pleasure to welcome some of the project team and learn about this amazing participatory textile project that was born in Alfreton. Hearing from some of the founders and amazing makers about how the project began and how it has continued to ripple outwards was both fascinating and uplifting ✨

The wonderful dress is full of detail. It’s clear to see the many hours that have been spent creating it, and the many hands that have adorned it with beautiful stories and techniques. There was so much to admire!
We also had the opportunity to try our hand at printing, weaving and embroidery 😃
