3 days to go to the Stogumber Open Gardens charity weekend, and the weather looks ideal for strolling around gardens and enjoying the hard work undertaken by others! And then relaxing with a bite to eat or a cuppa at the Village Hall, or exploring the plants and bric-a-brac stalls. Or if you need a break from the sun and heat, rest in the lovely and unusual church with its art exhibition. There’s something for everyone!

There are 16 gardens to view, only £11 for the weekend, with plenty of free parking, Sat Nav TA4 3TG, what3words: payer.self.brew. Dogs on leads are welcome in many areas.

You don't need to be good at music or at maths. You don't even need to come to church services.
Come to a practice (usually Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm) to see what it involves and to meet the band. Let Sara Coward know you're coming 07879 468383 or [email protected].
Ringing on Sundays (normally three times a month) is usually at 10:30am or 6pm for half an hour.

What does Confirmation mean? Do I need to be Confirmed?

Until the mid 20th century, most people were prompted to think about Confirmation in their mid-teens. Nowadays, many people reach adulthood and indeed get to middle or older age without having considered getting confirmed, and are unclear what it involves. It is in fact, the 'confirmation' of the promises made by parents and godparents at their baptism.
Confirmation used to be regarded as an essential requirement of being a 'member' of the Church of England, but we prefer to welcome rather than create hurdles, so it is a requirement only for some formal roles.
Nevertheless, some people may feel that they have missed out on something that is important, and would be interested in find out what Confirmation means and involves. The church was full for the School and Family Christmas Service on Friday, and again for Carols by Candlelight on Sunday, but if you've not yet managed to come, remember there are more beautiful carols by candlelight with Holy Communion on Christmas Eve at 11pm.
