🚲🍓 Strawberry Line adventure 🐾

We had a brilliant family day out cycling the Strawberry Line recently!

Parked up at Yatton (bargain £3.50 for the day), grabbed some bikes, and hit the trail. The bike hire was fantastic… loads of adaptive options, so our son found a super stable tag-along that worked perfectly. Even managed to bring the puppy along in a trailer 🐶

It’s about 10 miles down to Cheddar Gorge where we stopped for lunch… then the beauty of it is you can either cycle back or hop on the train 🚆

Simple, easy, and just a great adventure all round. One of those days you know you’ll remember.

Big thanks to Strawberry Line Cycle Project for the inspiration. One day the Steam Coast Trail will match your adventure 🚲✨

🎶 (Lyrics in the video… had to capture it somehow!)

Exciting News: Full Steam Ahead! 🚂🚲

We have some huge news to share with the Steam Coast Trail community!

Today we had a fantastic meeting with the Council and the team at Greenways and Cycleroutes charity (including their founder John Grimshaw, the former Chief Engineer at Sustrans).

Following this meeting, the Steam Coast Trail Trustees have unanimously decided to partner with Greenways to help us deliver the rest of the trail. With their track record of delivering vital community paths, we are feeling more confident than ever before that we can accelerate the project.

The timing couldn’t be better. With the new developments between Williton and Watchet on the horizon - including the proposed cycle links around the Station Fields site - it is looking promising that the trail will start gaining serious momentum in the not-too-distant future.

We Need You! 🫵

With this new momentum, we are looking to grow our team. We are currently recruiting:

• A New Treasurer: A vital role to help us manage funds as we move into this exciting delivery phase.

• New Members & Volunteers: Whether you can help clear vegetation or guide strategy, we’d love to have you on board.

If you want to help us connect our communities and welcome all wheels to West Somerset, please send us a message or email us at [email protected].

Let’s get this built! 🛠️

Super excited to have met Stuart Kennard, the new Principle Transport Planner at Somerset Council! We took a walk along the Dunster Steam Coast Trail (shingle has been cleared) and got up to speed on a bit of cycle path history. Hopefully he’ll help us get back up to speed on local path delivery! 👊
