St Margaret's Somerset Hospice

St Margaret's Somerset Hospice Providing palliative care to people and families living with life-limiting illnesses across Somerset

For over four decades we have championed a simple but important belief – that people facing a life-limiting illness deserve the best possible care and compassion, so they can live well and die well. In that time, we have become a household name, firmly rooted in local communities throughout Somerset delivering free, expert end-of-life and palliative care for adults and their families. Each year we

help over 4,800 people with our care and positively impact the lives of many thousands more who come together to fundraise in memory of loved ones, shop with us, attend our events and volunteer. Today it costs the charity in the region of £15m per year to run our full range of services with two third of this covered by fundraising activities.

When night falls, the world feels different.

For many people living with a life-limiting illness, the night can be the hardest time of all. That's why St Margaret’s Hospice Care's clinical teams are there through every night, providing expert care, comfort and reassurance when it matters most.

This October, take on our Snowdon at Night Challenge, an unforgettable overnight climb to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) as the sun rises.

Every step you take will help ensure no one in Somerset faces the darkness alone.

We asked teams around the hospice who they think the hardest working team is - and honestly, we’re so touched by their responses! ❤️🥰🤭

Top 5 Summer Skin Care Tips for Lymphoedema! Read more ->

Our specialist Lymphoedema Team has put together five simple tips to help protect your skin, stay comfortable and reduce the risk of infection during the warmer months.

1. Keep cool – Try storing compression garments in the fridge overnight so they're cool and comfortable to put on in the morning.

2. Avoid insect bites – Carry insect repellent, wear long sleeves and trousers on longer walks, and use antiseptic cream if bitten to help reduce the risk of infection.

3. Stay sun safe – Avoid the hottest part of the day between 12pm and 3pm, keep affected areas covered where possible, and apply a high-factor sun cream.

4. Swimming – Dry thoroughly after swimming, paying particular attention to between the toes and skin folds, and moisturise afterwards to help prevent dry skin.

5. Flying with lymphoedema – Wear compression garments, stay hydrated and keep moving during your journey to support circulation.

Our specialist Lymphoedema Team supports patients with practical advice to help them manage their condition all year round 💛
