Our next film, Friday 13 November, is Cinema Paradiso - said to be one of the greatest films of all time. Lots of tickets still available online or from the library or Post Office. Wrap up warm though - we ain't got no heating!

Singer-songwriter Jessie Monday plays at Wiveliscombe Town Hall on Friday 27 November.

Celebrating her recent single releases “Don’t Invite Me” and “The Swing Girl”. what truly distinguishes Jessie is her dedication to her craft; her timeless songwriting. Jessie remains indifferent to fleeting trends, opting instead for a stripped-back aesthetic that blends 1960s pop ballads with the narrative depth of musical theatre.

Last call for Seamas Carey's Community Service, this Sunday at 4pm at the Town Hall.

The weather's horrible, the clocks will have gone back, what better way to cheer yourself up than an uplifting show at the Town Hall.

Thanks to Wiveliscombe's amazing generosity we’ve raised a huge £1,300 so far towards the cost of installing a chairlift. But that still leaves us with a little way to go, as you can see from our ‘Blue Peter’ thermometer that is making its way up the stairs.

If you haven’t already, do please consider contributing towards the final £3,200 (that’s £200/step) needed.

Your donation will help anyone challenged, for whatever reason, by that long flight of stairs to get all the way up to the top and see some wonderful shows.

The next show at Wiveliscombe Town Hall: Seamas Carey's Community Service.

Geoff is doing Community Service and he needs your help. He’s been sent by The Council to build a new community, spread social cohesion, harmony and collective joy. The only problem is: Geoff hates people… So, will he succeed in forming a new community with a bunch of random strangers, in just 60 minutes? Can you help Geoff see the good in people again?

After his sell-out visit to the Town Hall in 2023 with his show ‘Help, I think I’m a Nationalist’, Seamas Carey returns to deploy his trademark blend of sincerity and mischief.

Love your library!

The window elf wanted to recognise both and UK malnutrition awareness week - quite a challenge at our tiny library. So here is a choice menu to feast upon. Something for everyone.

There's a fire in the Town Hall, it's filled with smoke, people are thought trapped inside. What do you (or what does the Fire Brigade) do? Put out the fire then go and look for them? Shout at them to jump out a window? Or go in and find them? And if you go in to find them, what's it like if you don't know the building and you can't see where you're going? Training sessions simulate what it's like (using blindfolds not smoke) and we were pleased to lend them use of the Town Hall. Hopefully they'll be back when we screen all 13 episodes of Trumpton in their honour.

What a lovely man Chris Ewan is - and a fine thriller writer too. He was the final speaker at the Wivey Literary Festival yesterday and did us proud. Thanks to all the volunteers who made the day possible, sponsors, partner Chocolate Books, everyone who bought tickets, Brendon Books for supplying the material and Karen in the library for all her work making it happen.
