Fiona our CEO was interviewed yesterday on BBC Somerset Radio discussing the dementia support provided by our charity to those living with dementia and their carers.

10,000 of the one million people who have been diagnosed with dementia live in Somerset.

We are still working hard to raise awareness of the support we offer - so do share this interview.
The more people that know we exist the more people we can help.

Leaving a legacy is a profound way to ensure that the values and passions you hold dear continue to make a difference long after you're gone.

By including Reminiscence Learning in your will, you are not just leaving a gift, you are leaving a lifeline of support, compassion, and hope for future generations.

Your legacy could fund life-changing initiatives that bring comfort and joy to those living with dementia, provide vital training for carers, and promote understanding and empathy within the community.

Just 1% of your estate can make a difference

Imagine the ripple effect of your generosity: the smiles on the faces of those who benefit from creative therapy sessions, the relief of carers who feel supported and understood, and the strengthened bonds within communities that learn to embrace and care for their vulnerable members.

This is the powerful impact your legacy can have.

Leaving a gift to Reminiscence Learning in your will is a way to ensure that the values you cherish such as compassion, dignity, and care, live on. Itโ€™s a testament to your belief in a world where everyone, regardless of age or cognitive ability, is valued and remembered.

Your legacy can be a beacon of hope for so many.

๐Ÿ˜You are not alone - we can support your dementia journey.

We know that local support can make an enormous difference to people living with dementia and the families who care for them.

At Reminiscence Learning, we have been providing practical help for over 20 years.

Our meaningful activities and opportunities create valuable connections and support throughout the year.

From our Respite Activity Sessions and Carer Support Groups to Together in Sport and our Memory Activity Groups, our services are designed to help people remain active, engaged and included within their community.

September is World Alzheimerโ€™s Month, which is a global campaign to raise awareness, challenge stigma and encourage greater understanding of Alzheimerโ€™s disease and other forms of dementia.

Behind every diagnosis is an individual with their own personality, history, interests and abilities. There are also family members and carers who may be navigating uncertainty, exhaustion and significant changes to everyday life.

Nobody should have to face that journey alone.

This month, we encourage everyone to:

๐Ÿ’œ Learn more about dementia
๐Ÿ’œ Challenge stereotypes and unhelpful language
๐Ÿ’œ Check in with someone caring for a loved one
๐Ÿ’œ Make local spaces more welcoming and inclusive
๐Ÿ’œFind out what dementia support is available nearby

Awareness matters, but it must lead to understanding, compassion and meaningful action.

Throughout World Alzheimerโ€™s Month and beyond, Reminiscence Learning will continue supporting people affected by dementia across our local community.

Our Archie project remains a huge focus for us too, educating children in schools about dementia and linking them with care homes local to them..

If you or someone you know could benefit from any of our services, please get in touch. Sharing this post is vital - it might reach someone who needs our help.

๐Ÿ•๏ธ Camping Adventures at Reminiscence Learning!

Jenna recently brought the great outdoors inside with a camping-themed Respite Activity Session.

Everyone enjoyed sharing memories of their own camping holidays and adventures, from sleeping under canvas to cooking outdoors and enjoying time with family and friends.

There was plenty of teamwork and laughter as the group got involved in putting up the tent - proving that camping skills are never forgotten!

Reminiscence activities like these can spark treasured memories, encourage conversation and create wonderful opportunities for connection for people living with dementia. A fantastic session enjoyed by everyone. โ˜€๏ธ

And from 17th September we will be offering weekly outdoor trips. Contact us find out more about our new MAP project every Thursday. A chance to get outdoors and enjoy walks in the countryside.
