A therapeutic garden at Forest Lodge is helping people build confidence, develop new skills and support their mental health as they work towards recovery 🌱

The impact goes beyond gardening. Service users at Sheffield Health Partnership have been learning to cook with the food they grow, making dishes including carrot and courgette soup, chocolate beetroot cake and carrot cake! 🥕

Thanks to two generous funders, NHS Charities Together and National Garden Scheme, this project has created much more than a garden ✨

🕺 From fundraising to hitting the dancefloor!

Two members of Team SHC are swapping their day jobs for dancing shoes as they take on Strokely Come Dancing! ✨

Having seen first-hand how donations make a difference right across our NHS, they’re ready to take on a new challenge – dancing the night away and raising money to support stroke patients, their families and the NHS staff who care for them. 💙🤍

Wish them luck and Keep Dancing! 💃

Tickets are still available if you’d like to come and cheer them on!

Choose your light and take the opportunity to thank Sheffield’s NHS staff, remember a loved one, celebrate a happy moment, or simply spread some festive cheer 💙

There's still time for you to get involved before the lights switch on. If you would like to give the gift of light, head over to our website https://sheffieldhospitalscharity.org.uk/light-up-our-hospitals and sign up before Thursday 5th November🔗

🌿A breath of fresh air for neurorehabilitation

After a life-changing brain injury or illness, recovery can be a long and challenging journey. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that make the biggest difference.

Thanks to our generous supporters, patients at the Osborn 4 Neurorehabilitation Centre now have a special place where that rehabilitation can happen beyond the ward. They have a beautiful outdoor rehabilitation garden where they can practise walking on different surfaces, spend time with loved ones, enjoy nature and simply feel a little more like themselves again.

For Rachel, who went from being a high-level professional to emergency brain surgery within 24 hours, a garden would have offered a safe space between hospital life and the outside world.

💚 “When all that normality has suddenly been taken away from you, to have the normality of a garden would’ve meant the world.”

✨ This is what your support makes possible. Read about Rachel’s journey and see the transformation of the space here:

Our Christmas cards are now live! Why not make someone’s Christmas a little brighter while supporting Sheffield’s NHS? 🎄

We’ve partnered with local artist Lisa Maltby, who has beautifully illustrated the decorations that will light up the Hallamshire as part of our Give the Gift of Light campaign✨

🔗 You can buy our cards on our website https://sheffieldhospitalscharity.org.uk/shop or at select retailers in Leah’s Yard.

Every card you buy helps us to bring moments of light, comfort, and hope to patients, their families, and the NHS staff who care for them 💙

When was the last time you looked at your will? 👀

If the honest answer is never, you’re not alone. Writing or updating a will is one of those things that’s very easy to put off.

To make it as simple as possible, we’ve partnered with Octopus Legacy so you can get your will sorted online for free, in as little as 15 minutes. There's no obligation to leave a gift to us, but it gives you total peace of mind that your loved ones and wishes are looked after.

On Friday, 16 October, we brought together senior leaders and partners in Sheffield, alongside the Domestic Abuse Commissioner, Dame Nicole Jacobs, to discuss how we can drive culture change around domestic abuse impacting NHS staff.

The event was an opportunity to discuss REACH, an ambitious partnership project to support NHS staff at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Sheffield Health Partnership who are subjected to domestic abuse while also helping NHS Trusts to strengthen their workplace response.

REACH combines confidential support for staff with training, awareness raising and culture change to ensure domestic abuse is recognised and responded to appropriately.

The project has been made possible through funding and support from Sheffield Hospitals Charity. The project is delivered by the IDAS team.

Our discussions reinforced a clear message: REACH is needed, and leadership support is essential to making lasting change.

We heard why staff need to feel able to seek support, explored the barriers that can make this difficult, and discussed how organisations can build domestic abuse awareness and appropriate responses into everyday workplace practice.

A survey carried out as part of REACH found that 33% of NHS staff surveyed had experienced domestic abuse, while 43% knew a colleague who had experienced domestic abuse.

With senior leadership support, we can work together to embed REACH across both NHS trusts, helping ensure staff know where to find information, how to access support and how to support colleagues.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, insight and experience. We look forward to continuing this work together.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week, we remember all the babies who are loved and missed every day🤍

We’re proud to fund a free, 18-month creative activities programme for mums and co-parents who have experienced late-pregnancy loss, stillbirth or neonatal death.

The programme offers the chance to explore creativity, learn new skills and make something meaningful for yourself, at your own pace.

Co-designed with people with lived experience, the programme recognises that everyone’s journey is different. If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch with Arts in Health.

Thinking of all the families remembering their babies this week. 🤍
