Roundabout is South Yorkshire’s local youth housing charity.

We support over 500 young people aged 13-25 every day across Sheffield and Rotherham, providing tailored support and guidance that empowers them on their journey towards independence. Roundabout is Sheffield's local youth housing charity, and provides shelter, support and life skills to young people. We provide emergency accommodation for homeless young people at our emergency hostel and support young people to live independently in secure bedsits and in shared housing throughout the city. Roundabout also offers young people a comprehensive programme of training and involvement which breaks the cycle of homelessness and develops long term independent living skills.

☀️ Sunshine, ice cream and a stroll to Forge Dam for our latest Peer Education Walk! 🥾

The sunshine might seem like a distant memory now, but our Peer Educators managed to make the most of a brilliant sunny day before getting back into their school sessions for the new academic year.

They headed out for another Walk and Talk, this time taking a gentle route from Endcliffe Park Café to Forge Dam.

There was plenty of time along the way to enjoy the fresh air, catch up and spend time together outside of the usual day-to-day.

Of course, no walk would be complete without a well-earned stop for ice cream at Forge Dam! There was even time to make some feathered friends along the way, stopping to feed the ducks.

Another brilliant Peer Ed Walk, at just the right time to enjoy some sunshine before we head into the colder months!

🚨 We’re hiring! Project Worker - Rotherham 🚨

We’re looking for a Project Worker to join our 24/7 support service in Rotherham, working with young people aged 16–25 who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

You’ll support young people on a one-to-one basis, tailoring your approach to their individual needs and providing a consistent point of contact. You’ll help them take positive steps towards their future, from finding employment or undertaking training to building positive social circles and developing the skills needed to maintain accommodation and live independently.

You’ll also deliver intensive housing-related support across emergency accommodation, short-term supported accommodation and tenancy sustainment services, empowering young people to develop independent living skills, improve their wellbeing, reduce risk and achieve positive long-term outcomes.

🕒 Hours: Full Time, rota-based, including evenings, weekends and some bank holidays
📍 Location: Rotherham

Let’s Get Krazy! 🏁

We’re so excited to be bringing Krazy Races back to Sheffield in 2027, and this morning we officially kicked things off!

It was fantastic to celebrate the launch alongside local businesses, teams from last year and plenty of new faces joining the Krazy Races community.

A huge thank you to the The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Andrew Sangar for hosting us at the beautiful Sheffield Town Hall.

Roundabout’s Fundraising Manager, Emily, spoke about why the event means so much to our charity, alongside Danny from Krazy Races who went through how the event runs and what to expect.

We also heard from one of our young people, Luna, who bravely shared her story, highlighting the many reasons why we do what we do.

Well done, Luna! You were brilliant! 🩷

Alongside having Gripple's popular Badger soapbox on display, we were also delighted to present Team Dragon Express with the final award from the 2026 event, recognising them as the team that raised the highest amount.

What a brilliant morning! We’re already blown away by how many teams have signed up for next year’s event.

🏃‍♀️ Good luck, Team Roundabout! 🏃‍♂️

This weekend, our brilliant Team Roundabout runners will be taking on the Sheffield 10K, and we couldn’t be prouder of everyone taking part and all the hard work they’ve put into training!

We’ll be cheering you on all the way to the finish line, with every pound raised helping us continue to make a real difference to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

🦈 Community Champions: There’s a shark on the Parkrun! 🦈

Our Feel Good Friday Community Champions post returns this week with Roundabout volunteer, Cayde who took on five Parkruns in five weeks dressed as a bright blue shark, raising an amazing £573 to support our young people.

From limited visibility to feeling “as hot as a greenhouse”, it wasn’t quite the easy swim he’d imagined!

A huge thank you to Cayde, everyone who ran alongside him and everyone who donated! 🩷

🌳 A lovely day out at Thrybergh Country Park! 🌳

Our Rotherham team and some of our wonderful young people enjoyed a lovely walk around Thrybergh Country Park, taking in the beautiful surroundings and making the most of the sunshine!

With the current weather, that sunshine seems like an age ago!

It was the perfect day to get outdoors and spend quality time together, with plenty of time for refreshments and a well-earned sit down by the water watching the ducks and swans!

Everyone had a great time, with lots of smiles and plenty of opportunities to relax, chat and enjoy the scenery together.

🌟 From co-production to the classroom! 🌟

We love hearing about where our young people’s journeys take them, and today we’re celebrating Faith, who has recently started a new role as a SEN Teaching Assistant! 🎉

Faith has been involved in both our Peer Education programme and our co-production work, helping to ensure young people’s voices and ideas shape what we do. She’s also put her amazing design skills to good use, helping to shape some of Roundabout’s promotional materials.

Now, she’s taking her skills and experience into the classroom.

In her new role, Faith supports students who may need some additional help with learning, regulating their emotions, or simply having someone they trust nearby.

As Faith puts it: “When students are overwhelmed, I’m a safe space to come to. With the SEN kids, I build trust and work with them closely to understand them, what they need and what works for them.”

That might mean time out, breathing exercises, games, structure, comfort or something completely different – because every young person is different.

And although Faith says she’s usually “all over the classroom helping everyone”, what really comes through is how much care she puts into understanding each individual student and helping them feel safe, supported and able to learn.

Congratulations, Faith! 👏

It’s fantastic to see you taking your skills and experiences into a role where you can make such a positive difference in young people’s lives.

🏁 Krazy Races is back! 🏁

After an incredible first year, which saw nearly 20,000 people attend, Krazy Races returns on Sunday 20th June 2027, bigger, bolder and ready for another day of soapbox madness, all to raise vital funds for the young people we support!

This summer saw over 20 teams race down Sheffield’s Fargate in wacky machines and krazy costumes, complete with some often questionable dance moves!

But can this year’s winners, The Roundabout Ravers (Team Roundabout), retain the title next year? 🏆

Away from the racing, spectators can expect another action-packed day of family entertainment, with food, drink, activities and plenty happening throughout the event.

🎉 A huge congratulations to our Peer Educator, Aimee! 🎉

We’re absolutely delighted to share that Aimee has officially passed her first year at university studying Mental Health Nursing! 🎓

It’s a fantastic achievement and a real testament to all the hard work, dedication and determination Aimee has put into her studies while continuing to be a valued part of Peer Education.

Peer Education Co-Ordinator Will said: “I'm incredibly proud of Aimee and everything she has achieved. Studying Mental Health Nursing takes a huge amount of commitment, compassion and resilience, and passing her first year is a brilliant milestone. Aimee has a very bright future ahead of her, and we’re all looking forward to seeing where her journey takes her next.”
