We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to join Roundabout’s Board of Trustees and play an important role in helping us deliver life-changing support for young people.

Our Trustees share responsibility for governing Roundabout, helping shape our future and ensuring we continue to make a real difference to young people’s lives.

We’re committed to actively valuing diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from all communities, including those with lived experience of homelessness.

But what’s it actually like to be a Trustee at Roundabout? We caught up with current Trustee Rosemary to hear about her experience and why she chose to get involved.

Rotherham Wellbeing Day at Hathersage ☀️

What a wonderful day our young people had on their recent Girls’ Wellbeing Day!
After some of our Rotherham young people told the team they’d love to go swimming, a special trip was planned to the beautiful outdoor pool at Hathersage.

The day started with a picnic in a local park, where the girls chatted, laughed and discovered just how much they had in common, followed by games of football and tag.

They then headed to the pool and enjoyed water games, diving competitions and underwater handstands, while those who were less confident in the water were supported and encouraged by staff and their friends.

They finished the day with a well-earned ice cream!

A huge thank you to the Tesco Stronger Starts grant, which helped make this lovely day possible and enabled us to purchase swimsuits for those who needed them, ensuring everyone who wanted to take part could do so.

One young person told us, “I loved the day and it was such a pretty place,” while another said, “It felt good to be out with the other girls as we have a lot in common.”

📩 We were delighted to receive a letter from Prime Minister Andy Burnham recognising Roundabout’s work and the important role charities can play in the national drive to end rough sleeping.

Our prevention-led approach has helped make youth rough sleeping rare and brief across the areas we serve, with our teams working to support young people before homelessness reaches crisis point.

Our Chief Executive, Ben Keegan, believes Roundabout’s experience in South Yorkshire could make a valuable contribution to the national effort to prevent homelessness and end rough sleeping.

☀️ Heading to the Peak District with the latest Peer Education Walk 🥾

This time, young people and staff from across Roundabout headed out to the beautiful Longshaw Estate in the Peak District for an afternoon of fresh air and some lovely scenery along the way – including a deer sighting halfway through the walk!

Our regular Peer Ed Walks are a chance for young people to get outside, spend time in nature and meet new people.

It was also a great opportunity for staff and young people from across Roundabout to spend some time together away from the usual day-to-day, catch up with familiar faces and get to know some new ones.

Thankfully, there were fewer hills than on our last walk, and a welcome visit to the café at the end meant some well-deserved refreshments and ice cream!

We were also joined by Pig, a beautiful greyhound belonging to one of our young people, who had a great time exploring the route and enjoying the adventure with everyone!

A brilliant day with great company, lovely weather and plenty of fresh air!

🎉 A 61% reduction in youth homelessness risk

Early evaluation data from our Upstream service in Sheffield shows that across our first three cohorts, we’ve achieved at least a 61% reduction in youth homelessness risk.

Upstream focuses on early intervention, identifying and supporting young people who may be at risk of homelessness before they reach crisis point.

Upstream Manager Jon Edwards recently joined our partner school Meadowhead School and Sixth Form for their end-of-year celebrations and reflected on the partnership:

“Roundabout and Meadowhead staff have been able to establish an exceptional working relationship over the past 18 months, and the results we’ve been able to achieve together are testament to the power of effective multi-agency working.”

A huge thank you to our partner schools and our brilliant Upstream team for everything they do to support young people. These early results show just what can be achieved by working together.
