Sheffield Volunteer Centre Information, advice + support to people who want to volunteer. Please share your volunteering stories

Sheffield Volunteer Centre is part of Voluntary Action Sheffield, supporting the voluntary and community sector in Sheffield to be vibrant, effective and influential. We provide information, advice and support to people who would like to volunteer, running a drop-in service (currently closed due to Covid-19) helping people to get started with volunteering, and finding them a suitable volunteer opp

ortunity. We also support organisations who want to develop volunteering opportunities and volunteering programmes, and can work with employers who are supporting their employees to volunteer. We encourage and develop good practice in volunteer involvement, so that volunteering is open to everyone and is a positive and beneficial experience for all. We also deliver specialist training in volunteer management. Sheffield Volunteer Centre is accredited by Volunteering England.

Meet 20 organisations, all in one place, and explore volunteering opportunities in Sheffield on 30 September.

Finding a volunteering opportunity can sometimes mean looking through lots of different organisations, roles and causes.

At the VAS Volunteer Fair, you can meet a range of organisations in one place and speak to them directly about the opportunities they have available.

This September, organisations joining us include Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Museums, SCCCC, Independent Monitoring Boards, Snowdrop Project, SHEFFIELD PARENT CARER FORUM, THE STEEL VALLEY PROJECT, Sheffield Parkinson's Support Group, Kids Plant Trees, Sheffield Cathedral: A Place for All People, Heeley Trust, Citizens Advice Sheffield (Sheffield Citizens Advice and Law Centre), Link Learning, Eyam Museum, SAVTE (Sheffield English Language Support), Whiteley Woods Outdoor Activity Centre, Broomhill Methodist Centre, Blue Cross UK, St Wilfred's Centre and St Vincent's de Paul.

You can have a conversation, ask what different roles involve and find out more about the organisations that interest you.

No need to know exactly what you’re looking for before you arrive — the Fair is there to help you explore.

📅 Wednesday 30th September
⏰ 10am–2pm
📍 The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW

The research is exploring what helps volunteers stay involved over time, what makes volunteering a positive experience, and what factors can lead people to step away.

Mardi Jacobs is looking to hear from anyone who has volunteered for a charity or non-profit at any point in the last 12 months (whether they still volunteer or not).

The survey:
• Takes around 7–10 minutes to complete
• Is completely anonymous
• Is open to anyone who has volunteered for a charity or non-profit in the last 12 months

The insights will help identify common patterns across volunteers’ experiences and provide practical guidance that charities can use to better understand and support volunteer retention.

👉 Take part here: https://lnkd.in/dzJVRRis

📩 If your charity or non-profit would like to receive a copy of the free one-page summary once it’s available, you can register your interest here: [email protected]

If you have any questions about the research or would like any further information before sharing with volunteers, please feel free to get in touch.

Every response helps build a richer understanding of what matters to volunteers and how charities can better support and retain them.

Thank you so much for your support. If you think this could be useful to your network, I’d really appreciate you sharing this post.

Thinking about volunteering in Sheffield this autumn? This could be a good place to start.

Our next VAS Volunteer Fair is coming up on Wednesday 30th September, bringing together organisations from across Sheffield in one place.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what kind of volunteering you want to do. You can come along, meet different organisations, ask questions and get a sense of the opportunities that might suit your interests, skills or availability.

This September, you’ll be able to meet organisations working across health, heritage, the environment, community support, children and families, advice services and more.

We’ll be joined by:
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Sheffield Museums
SCCCC
Independent Monitoring Boards
Snowdrop Project
Sheffield Parent Carer Forum
The Steel Valley Project
Sheffield Parkinson's Support Group
Kids Plant Trees
Sheffield Cathedral
Heeley Trust
Citizens Advice Sheffield
Link Learning
Eyam Museum
SAVTE
Whiteley Woods Outdoor Activity Centre
Broomhill Methodist Centre
Blue Cross UK
St Wilfrid's Centre
St Vincent's de Paul

Our venue is fully accessible and all are welcome.

If your organisation is taking part, please feel free to share this with your networks. And if you know someone who has been thinking about volunteering but isn’t sure where to begin, send this their way.
