Our Area Organiser Rhiannon Yardley joins our Tesco Airdrie reps Lisa and Gayle at their in-store Freedom from Fear campaign. Recent statistics show a still shocking level of abuse towards shopworkers, with nearly 80% having been verbally abused in the last year. Usdaw campaigns year-round to help raise public awareness that this is unacceptable behaviour. This is the story behind Dolly Parton's hit song "9 to 5".

In the 1970s women in office jobs faced discrimination. They were paid less, passed over for promotions and experienced sexual harassment.

The 9 to 5 movement was established to fight for better treatment of working women

This was the inspiration for the Dolly Parton movie and song, “9 to 5”.

The 9 to 5 movement continues to campaign for women’s rights.
