July 1926 saw the first ever greyhound race in the U.K. and a century of suffering for greyhounds has followed, with an estimated one million dogs having lost their lives.

There are marches in London and Manchester to commemorate this grim anniversary. Here in Scotland we can remember all those dogs who were cruelly killed, but also celebrate that in 2026 we finally banned greyhound racing in Scotland!

Thank you to every single person who stood outside the GBGB Greyhound Derby final last night to be a voice for the dogs racing inside.

To the industry we say greyhound's' lives are not yours to risk for gambling and entertainment, shame on you all!

Dogs being raced on GBGB track during this scorching heatwave, profit over life as always 🤬

Once again greyhounds will be racing in these hot temperatures to protect the live streaming of races and profits for the gambling industry.

Greyhound racing is allowed to continue up to temperatures of 33 degrees going against veterinary advice for dogs which advices extreme caution walking dogs at 24 - 27 degrees.

An Australian study showed a dangerous body temperature was reached in a significant number of greyhounds running at 31.2 degrees.
The industry does not do urine tests to check for muscle breakdown so no one knows which dogs are at risk or may suffer renal damage from racing in hot weather.
That’s the reality of the GBGB welfare.

New Zealand has announced the end of greyhound racing, with all tracks expected to close by July 2026. The decision follows years of criticism surrounding injuries, exhaustion, and treatment of racing dogs throughout the industry.

Animal welfare groups have long argued that many greyhounds faced difficult conditions during racing careers and uncertain futures once retired. Supporters of the ban say the move places compassion and responsible policy above entertainment and gambling profits.

For many advocates, the decision represents a major step toward stronger animal protection standards and safer lives for thousands of dogs. It also sends a wider message that animal wellbeing should never be ignored for public entertainment.

🌟 We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating the success of Mark Ruskell - Scottish Greens' members bill which secured a ban on greyhound racing in Scotland in March! It was also Mark's birthday this week, following his re-election to the Scottish Parliament so there were many reasons to celebrate!

🎨 We had the great pleasure to present Mark with a beautiful oil painting of his beloved late hound Bert, painted by the very talented Lulu Brown.

🐾 It was so wonderful to see such a huge number of humans and hounds coming together to give thanks for all the hard work Mark and his team put into bringing the bill through parliament and championing the cause we have all worked so hard for together over the last decade. We were grateful you could all attend

🙏🏼 Enormous thank you to Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary for organising the event in the beautiful Dollar Park in Falkirk. Thanks also to The DogMa for the lovely doggie treats, and to Wanderdog for helping to organise and lead a lovely walk.

So many greyhounds raced in the UK end up being exported for breeding to countries with little or no welfare. This petition brought by CAGED Nationwide aims to protect greyhounds by making it compulsory to neuter them at the end of racing.

We are so sad to hear of the passing of lovely Mo the greyhound. He was a wonderful greyhound advocate and a cherished family member who will be so dearly missed. We are thinking of his family at this difficult time.
