Scottish Union Learning’s annual Highlands and Islands Week of Learning took place from June 16th to 19th, celebrating work-based learning and skills, and empowering workplace reps across the region.

This year’s programme was our most ambitious yet with 11 learning events delivered over the four days reaching well over 100 learners.

Scottish Union learning’s Highlands and Islands 2026 Week of Learning will take place from 15 to 19 June 2026.

As ever, our programme is a snapshot of the broad range of learning available through Scottish Union learning. It reflects the substantial growth in the scope of our work over the last 12 months which is built on strong partnerships with our valued partners and stakeholders across Highlands and Islands.

🎬 Intimacy Coordination for Costume Teams 🤝

We're hosting a session exploring the role of the intimacy coordinator and how they work with the costume department to create the best environment when preparing for and filming intimate scenes.

Led by Intimacy Coordinator, Vanessa Coffey (Wolfe, Fate the Winx Saga, I Hate Suzie), the course covers:

🔸What is included in the concept of “intimacy” on screen
🔸The history of the role and why it is so needed
🔸What is an intimacy coordinator and how do they work?
🔸The responsibilities of the costume department
🔸What happens before during and after filming intimate scenes
🔸Closed set protocols

𝐂𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 15th May 2026 at midday

The STUC – Scotland’s Trade Union Centre – is seeking to recruit a Director of Scottish Union Learning to join Scottish Union Learning.

The Director of Scottish Union Learning will develop and lead Scottish Union Learning as a key part of the STUC’s overall learning offer. The Director will report to the General Secretary of the STUC and be part of the Senior Management Team at the STUC. The Director will lead Scottish Union Learning and have operational responsibility for the staff and financial management of Scottish Union Learning. They will also play a key role in developing the strategic direction of union-led learning.

Candidates 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 have a commitment to trade union values.

We offer an excellent package of terms and conditions, including a defined benefit staff pension scheme, 29 days annual leave plus 15 public holidays, and a range of family friendly policies such as support with childcare costs.

The role will be based in our modern, purpose-built office in the East End of Glasgow.

We have a flexi time system and a home working policy, with full-time employees able to work up to two days per week from home.
