It's and we're sharing Andy's story.
In 2020 Andy was diagnosed with severe visual impairment due to complications with .

"In early 2020, my life changed forever. I woke up one morning struggling to see in both eyes. When I went to the eye casualty clinic, I received a diagnosis that was both shocking and devastating: I had severe visual impairment due to long-standing complications from . One eye had a detached retina, and the other was badly damaged. The doctors told me, “We’ll be lucky to save any sight.” It was a moment that turned my world upside down."

But from that challenging day, a new chapter began. I refused to let this diagnosis define me. Over the past few years, I’ve taken up cycling on my indoor bike, which has been nothing short of transformative. Cycling has helped me improve my health, manage my diabetes, and strengthen my mental resilience. Throughout this journey, Berkshire Vision has been there to support for me, providing guidance, resources, and encouragement when I’ve needed it most. "

If you are living with you can minimise the risk of by controlling your their blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol and attending regular diabetic eye screening appointments.

1 in 3 and people want to try sport but haven’t had the chance. Barriers like accessibility, awareness, cost, confidence and transport still stand in the way.

Our adapted sports programme changes that. Through regular sessions and taster events, we give people the chance to try new activities in a safe, supportive environment.

Last week’s blind cricket taster was a huge success, helping to build confidence and a keen interest in the sport. Because it’s not just about trying something new. It’s about feeling ready to take part in the community beyond us.

✨ The fun didn’t stop at cycling…
Our half term programme was packed with even more enjoyable activities, helping build confidence, independence, and fun times with friends.

We got creative at the Eco Skills Centre, building bug hotels and learning all about nature and despite the heat we brought the energy with a fantastic dance session with SynergyDance .

Thank you to all the that joined us and we can't wait for the summer.

Thank you The Powell Family Foundation and The Hargreaves Foundation for supporting our Children's programme.

✨ This is the magic your support makes possible ✨
Meet 17 year old Dayzie. She started losing her sight at just 8 years old due to a condition called FND (Functional Neurological Disorder), which affects how the brain and body communicate. Her sight in her left eye went quickly… and by age 12, she had lost her sight completely. On top of that, FND also impacts her mobility, so everyday things many of us take for granted can feel impossible.

We’ve been supporting Dayzie since she was 12, and she always believed riding a bike would be out of reach. But here’s where the magic happens

Through our partnership with Newbury Velo, and with the help of an e-bike tandem, that “impossible” moment became reality and during May half term, Dayzie RODE A BIKE.

Dayzie even captured the whole experience herself using her smart glasses.

This wonderful story highlights the proof that with the right support, nothing is off limits. This is the impact YOU make possible.

A huge thank you to the wonderful at Newbury Velo

and thank you to Benefact Group for helping support this partnership.

If you can support us to make more MAGIC happen, any donation big or small really does make a difference. Thank you. https://berkshirevision.org.uk/donate/
